Upgrading my wheels

Hello,

I currently have stock wheels on my 2013 1.6 TDI, they are 205/55R16, OEM number 5F0601025A

I would like to replace them with 2019 Cupra R wheels 19" on low profile tyres, OEM number 8j-5f-5f0601025a.

I have been on willtheyfit.com but am unsure how to find out what the existing wheel width and offset is. Moreover, I am not sure what size low profile tyres I will need for the new 19" wheels so they fit perfectly like the stock Cupra R.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Can't help you with the tyres, but your current wheels are ET46 offset and 6.5J width.

Tyre size for the 19s will be 235/35. But unless you have lowered suspension, my advice would be go for 18 inch Fr wheels. Not just for looks but ride quality and tyre (and wheel) price too. I have a standard cupra and actually downsized to an aftermarket 18 wheel on 235/40 for these reasons. I'm much happier on the new set up. Just my opinion though

Sometimes, big wheels and very low profile tyres on the models with stock suspension can imo make it look like the car is on stilts. Fr and cupra have lowered suspension over the base models as standard. Personally ride quality on our crappy roads was biggest factor for me, cheaper tyres was a bonus.

Also, in addition to ride quality, it’s worth bearing in mind that with 35 profile tyres, there’s an increased risk of damage to the alloys - buckling or cracking - from road imperfections (e.g. from potholes, sunken or raised drain covers), as the 35 profile tyres will provide less cushioning between the wheel and road imperfections than a 40 profile tyre on an 18” wheel would.

cupra suspension are electric, the 19 inch on cupra dont feel it because of DCC, you put that on normal suspension and the ride is crap, let alone power loss due to size and weight, if you want bigger wheels, you need go OZ super LM they are light weigh and you can have them on 19 or 18.
the max wheels for you car would be seat performance wheels 18 they are 7.5J 18 take 225x44x18.
That's the smart upgrade, but if you dont care about car then go 19 with low profile, ride is crap and the rattles inside cabin will came soon.
cupra wheels are 8J some are 8.5J wide.

You will feel every bump in the road as though you're dragging you arse on it. Even with teh fancy comfort suspension on mine they are a bit uncomfortable

And hit any pothole deeper than half an inch and you run the risk of splitting the tyre walls, had 3 tyres in 2.5 years split the wall and rendered scrap. One of them was only 4 weeks old!

You'll also mess with your speedo i think going that big

Did you notice any issues with the handling, i have ben thinking about doing this myself but was always concerned the bigger tyre walls would make the car less stable in the corners.

Nope, I always thought on the 19s it tended to skip a bit in the corners if the surface was less than perfect and that is improved. I have no regrets whatsoever downsizing, for me they are a better choice in every way, comfort, bit of extra curb and pothole protection, price. I was unsure of my wheel choice at first compared to the sub 8s that were on it but now I like how it looks. Insurance had no issues either

I had 40 profile tyres on my Ibiza FR, never again! Felt everything through my body. Yes, Ibiza is probably less cushy/damped compared to Leon. Then moved over to a 55 profile tyre car, and those massive bumps and potholes (still there on the road) has magically disappeared. Now have 45 profile tyres on 17 inches (another different car), and it's still very good, much closer to the 55s than the 40s (despite it being closer to 40s tyre wall ratio wise).

Go max 18's as suggested.
The 19's look lovely, but you will have more gap in the arches and the ride will be firmer.
You can then lower it to reduce the arch gap but then the ride quality will suffer even more as a result.

I think this is the best upgrade for seat Leon and one of the nicest alloys on seat range in my opinion 18 performance, and for sure this is nicer than cupra alloys, one of the best looking alloys in vw group for me.
you cant go wrong with these.

yes maybe this is the plan for next time.

Unfortunately I was kind of forced into changing the current tyres when i realised they were a little thin.. Or as the guy put it at the garage 6 pointers each.
