Hi,
I hope someone could help identify a part for me and help with the issue I have.
The car in question is a 57 plate Ibiza FR 1.9tdi 130.
A couple of months back it seemed to lose boost with the turbo even though I could still hear the turbo spinning up. It still seemed to have some boost but not like normal and there appeared to be more diesel smoke out of the exhaust when accelerator hard.
Last week when having a good look around I discovered a worn vacuum pipe which drops down the rear of the engine. It's too tight to see exactly where it goes but it is identified as pipe 6 on the vacuum pipe manifold, am i right in thinking it goes to the actuator on the turbo?
Anyway, I've temporarily repaired the pipe with a bridging piece until the ordered part turns up at the dealer next week. Straight away the boost was back in the induction pipes, the car pulls like it should and the excess diesel smoke has gone so it seems to working OK.
Now today I noticed when turning off the ignition that they was a sort of vibrating air noise, a bit like someone blowing through a reed pipe, coming from the engine bay for a few seconds. It sounds like vacuum air letting by a seal, getting higher pitched until the air has run out. The noise is coming from a little black box about 8" square on the inner wing where all the vacuum pipes connect to.
Can anyone tell me what this black box is and does?
Is it possible that there may be dirt inside this box causing the noise/leak as the vacuum hose had been sucking air in for quite some time. Sometimes when I sharply tap the box it stops this noise.
Here's a pic of the offending part...
Thanks,
Colin.
