I cant get my engine temp to get up to 90 and it's driving me insane. I have changed the thermostat, the sensor, the coolant, spark plugs, coilpacks and had it fully serviced reguarly and it still wont budge (I know sparks etc wont be the issue but they needed doing anyway..)

What am I left with? Dodgy maf?

I also have the strong fume smell coming through the vents at a standstill but I cannot find a split ANYWHERE! I doubt this is related?

Help guys please I would really like to get this sorted!

Thanks.

Edit - the temp wont get above a quarter so 75 degrees? and is more likely than not sitting just below that :(

No, not that I'm aware of. I've owned the car for nearly 3 years and it's only been doing this for the last 4-6 months.

Water pump changed with the cambelt 8k ago. I have no access to vag-com annoyingly. When the thermostat was first changed the temp stayed just below 90 but never at the full 12 o'clock. Probably a week later it all went back to how it is now. Is it really possible the new thermostat is failing?! That would be some poor luck!

Had the same problem after putting 2 new thermostats in. If you have already done that it more than likely just needs bleeding. I popped to my local mechanic and he sorted it in 5 minutes :)

What about using the climate console to dispaly engine coolant temp? I can't post links yet (newbie still) but i found the guide here

I've changed the temp sensor twice in the last year. Bleeding? You mean changing the coolant? I did this a month ago when changing the thermostat. You think maybe doing it again? Why would the coolant need replacing if brand new?

Have found the following;

Run car from cold, leaving the coolant tank cap off until car gets to temp. if your thermostat works you'll see the coolant level drop, then rise again after a few minutes, that means your thermostat is working. you should notice some coolant flowing from the return line, that means your waterpump is working. massage coolant hoses by hand. the process should take about 15 min. fill it to level, cap it then drive around, check levels again.

I did this and it wasnt doing much,after 30mins of doing it I popped the lid back and with a second person holding the revs at 2.5k rpm i squashed all the hoses to get the air out, was told it needs to be under pressure to remove them if its really stuck-worked like a charm

just a quick question are the fans working correctly i.e not stuck on all the time keeping it a little cooler than normal ??? worth a check m8
