The longer one is the manual rack UJ, shorter is the oem pas one

UJs fitted to both racks

They both seem to sit at the same height which was a good sign

Old ones are the cupras sport steering set up

New ones suit the manual rack

Manual rack uses a short outer track rod and longer in tie rod arm

Set up I've gone with

Manual inner rack joint and cupra outer track rod end
Seem to have plenty of adjustment :)

Mk3 non gti arms with VT rear bushes welded in and powerflex black series front bushes

Complete subframe minus the rack

Things that are different for the manual rack

UJ
Rack
Tie rod assembly
Steering boots
Bushes (has 2 and smaller)
Clamps that bolt the rack to the subframe (now no longer available)
The big rubber boot around the UJs the attaches to the bulk head (again no longer available and go for silly money second hand on eBay) I've modified the cupra pas one but its too short so I put a universal steering gaiter around the UJ and them the oem boot over that will try and get pics.
The drive belt (yet to confirm its size)
Uses different Pas fluid ;)

Think that's it I will get as many OEM part numbers as I can and post them if anyone else try's to do it. Not sure it works myself yet haha may end up putting the pas back on lol.

Track is going to be about 2" wider overall then? What way is the rear track with regards to the front. Just thinking for handling characteristics. I think a wide front track and narrower rear track may give straight line stability.

No Bill just used the arms off a normal Mk3 golf so I could keep the Ibizas ball joints hubs and my AP brakes and neuspeed arb.

VR ball joint is threaded with a nut rather than a pinch bolt isn't it?

You reckon the VR arms, arb and hubs would make much more of a difference?

yes and yes

much better caster from vr hub

could you not just get some sort of adaptor made up to run your current brakes with the vr hubs?
nice progress though will you be running wider wings too?

Thanks mucka :)

Yeah that's an idea mucka I'd run the Ibiza 4x100 flange defo, not sure how different they are in the way of brake carrier bolt patten etc

Lot of work will worry about that after I've completed my jobs to do haha think this set will be best of both worlds. Wider than oe and easy/cheaper than VR swop

Won't run wider wings no, hopefully all be good.

Thinking about seting the ride height higher any way as I'm alway worried about smashing my sump on B roads lol

Bit more tonight

Would of finished it tonight if I had started earlier than I did lol

Any way rack and arms are on and bolted and connected. Seems to work just fine.

I got the passenger side all built up need to do the drivers side and need to source the correct size drive belt and then remove all the unwanted stuff.

Few pics

To start with dont buy the Mk2 golf Compbrake solid steering rack mounts as they only fit a Mk1 golf

This be them.

So after postie delivered them and I relised there too small I had a mad ring around everywhere to try and fine some rack clamps with no joy, until I rang a customer of mine from work (Carvell Motorsport - has a few golf mk2s racing the in mk2 golf gti championship and has a mk2 scirocco in the Vagtrophy series)
Who kindly drop me a set round. (Should of rang them first but hay)

Missing piece of the puzzle. Was very stressful and worring trying to get these lol there wider than the Ibiza version, although the Ibiza clamp fits its half the size and seems to let the rack move/flex side to side.

Good progress once again, although not good abouth the rack mounts.
I know you mentioned further above but are you just keeping the rears spaced out? Whats it like compared to the rear with the spacers on? 20mm a side iirc?

Anyway, cracking progress, keep it up

Rack mounts where disappointment defo look nice and would of stop any movement at all

Tbh I'm not sure on the front - rear ATM will wait till its on the floor and the coiles are setup correctly etc

But looking at one side they look pretty square to each other if not the fronts slightly wider
