Just had my renewal notice from Seat Insurance. 15 plate unmodified Leon mk3 1.2 tsi 12000 miles a year and I'm 48 with 10 years no claims, £600 . It's like they don't want my business.

It just depends on the company they're using to provide it really, you need to shop around any time you get a renewal because there's almost always a cheaper price out there somewhere.

I've checked all them comparison sites but what I found out was that you shouldnt leave it for the last minute as that often increases the price as well
 
Yeah mines is without black box mate. I set mine for a week in advance (2weeks is optimal i found) and im set for 7k miles a year cos who can prove i do more or less than that

I just had renew mine and it come to £500 with my exhaust declared. That's with Admiral on a multicar policy, I had to get them down to that, all together it was £919 for the Leon and the other halfs Corsa. The original renewal quote was £1100. Last year we paid £630 for both cars
 
It's always worth doing a bit of research on the comparison websites and then phoning your current insurer to see what they are prepared to do.

My insurer quoted me a renewal premium this year that was approx. 26% more than I paid last year. I knew I could get cover cheaper elsewhere, so phoned them and managed to get them to reduce the premium to pretty much what I was paying last year. It's just annoying that it seems necessary to do this; if they can reduce the premium when you phone to query the increase, why can't they offer you the lower premium in the first place?

insurance companies rely on complacency, they get you in on a cheap deal and then hope you don't shop around when they up the cost at renewal and you would be surprised how many people just let it auto renew. saved my son and daughter over £200 each by shopping around this year. But our own insurance is only £220 drivers age 48 & 52, 6000 miles per year on a 14 plate 1.4 tsi FR. (couldn't get that any cheaper even though I did try!!)
 
Mines 'only' £280 with Swiftcover, they've been the cheapest for me for years now. Had a claim last year and it was all handled so efficiently from car recovery to repairs, courtesy car etc..

I'm 47 with a 2017 1.4 ecoTSI DSG
 
I run my quotes every so often throughout the year and they're always cheapest about 6 months from renewal - they inexplicably increase the nearer they are to my renewal date, I doubt this is coincidence
 
Try direct line pal, everytime is came renewal time and I've looked to leave they've never been beaten on price, plus you'll always speak to someone you can understand
