How do you like your electric tailgate with virtual pedal. Is it worth this additional 500GBP?

Hard to say. It was in the spec when I bought it and I find it useful. If I have my hands full I can open or close the tailgate. Some people struggle to operate it but in my experience, it works well you just have to "learn" how to trigger it.

Not sure if it is worth 500 GBP to you. For me it probably is.

It came with my model as standard. In the four months I've owned the car I've needed to use the virtual pedal maybe twice. the rest of the time it's either the key fob button or the one on the tailgate itself. Would I spend £500 on it? probably not.

Ok, can I actually open/close a standard tail gate from a key fob?
Can I regulate a height of tailgate with standard tail gate? (My girlfriend is worried that is gonna be too high for her)

I don't think you can open the tailgate from a key fob, unless you have electric tail gate. Hopefully someone with a non electric tail gate can comment.

I spec'd it as an option on my V2. Being the type of car it is, and having had previous use of electric tailgates being able to operate via the remote fob, they are handy, so thought it was worth adding. The virtual pedal was a bonus and hoping it will come in even more handy.

When the V2 was originally launched the electric tailgate was standard, then they done away with it altogether after a few months, only to add it back as an option in July for the 22MY.

With the standard tailgate, I'm sure you can pop the boot with the fob, but it won't open fully.

In my case, the electric tailgate with virtual pedal was standard. I like the powered lift and lower using the fob and the button, but have disabled the foot pedal thing. A couple of time, I inadvertently triggered it whilst standing up to the bumper to put stuff in the boot with the seats folded flat.

I had electric boot and virtual pedal in two previous cars, so the fact, that Formentor had it as standard in my model version, was one of deciding factors (well specced car). I used it and use it all the time, unfortunately, sometimes it just doesn't work (not user error).

Was included in my spec also. Not sure I’d be stumping up £500 for it otherwise though. Not that I don’t think it’s worth it, it’s great, but only as part of the standard spec in my eyes.
The weight of the tailgate will hugely limit the amount of key fob functionality for purely mechanical operation. Works well on saloons, but they have less weight and are often spring loaded due to angle of opening.

The problem with electric tailgates is you might forget how to open a tailgate on a car without it.

I got in an old car the other day and couldn’t work out how to wind the window down or change gear.

Had electric on VZ Edition and manual on V2, my verdict,,,,,,,,, like both and they have good points and bad points.
Would I pay for it, no.

Wow, that's awesome! Could you list those points by any chance?

Can I regulate the height of the tailgate with a manual tail gate? (My girlfriend is worried that is gonna be too high for her)

You can’t regulate the height of the manual tailgate but my wife is 4’11” and she can reach it.

Electric bad:
Virtual pedal useless, very hit and miss and I looked like a knob on many occasion.
I like a tailgate to close fast when it’s peeing down or dogs in, electric does not.
Can open itself if you have the key in your pocket and washing it.

Electric good:
Erm, looks cool.
Can set height of opening. Virtual pedal would be nice if it worked ok.

All my opinion mate.

Thank you! Very helpful.

However, about "I like a tailgate to close fast when it’s peeing down or dogs in, electric does not."
I thought that I can still close electric tailgate manually in that case? Is it not possible?

You'd have to force electric motors to close it. I did not try it, but I feel it can't really be done easily - and more importantly, I doubt it is good for the engines.

On a practical perspective when you got both hands full you can close it, ditto open it. The Ateca virtual pedal works fine although Formentor people seem to find it hits them on the head. Perhaps the trigger point of the virtual pedal is too far out the back of the car. Mine only started off unexpectedly when I was on a tip run with HiFi / Sat equipment reckon the metal in the boot amplified the proximity sensor so it came down when loading it. The only other one is a feline weaving round your feat which has triggered it about twice. Cat underneath, you step back from rear it comes down ?. Two hands full closure comes in handy on that, bags in one, cat in the other (rear carpet is a mobile scratching post as all cat owners know, lift out close.... tech comes in handy).

When you are getting on a bit stretching to hit the button or yank the boot lid down can be more problematic with aches and pains ?. I'd always have one now.

Once you get the knack of how to use the pedal it's fine. My issue is when you are cleaning the rear diffuser......that's when the tailgate can pop open and catch your head!

Well if you are kneeling down to reach under the bumper diffuser area - your head is very close to the tailgate. A wrong swipe with the sponge and viola! the tailgate opens onto your head!

Had virtual pedal on a long term rental XC40 - was worth it just for the joy it gave 9yo son. Swift, but gentle kick up the backside and the boot popped open. A smile every time. I even used it a few times myself.

The electric boot is great to have, especially if there’s an interior button to open & close and for lighter, shorter people.
