Is it really that bad?

I'm currently thinking of getting rid of my c300d early as I hardly do any miles anymore and it's a reasonably expensive car to keep and maintain. I've been considering a Formentor V2, either the 150 or 190 bhp (phev doesn't interest me as would be a nightmare wiring up an connection from the house to where we park). However, I have read so much bad press about the car, I'm wondering if it really is that bad?? I know you tend to only hear about complaints, however there seems to be so many fundamental problems reported by many users on here. Infotainment system crashes/slowdowns, ACC not overtaking, random warning/errors etc. I don't really want to be switching to something that is either going to drive me crazy, or spend most of its time in the dealership... ?

So... Is it that bad? Or is it just a case of those with problems shouting loudest??

Hi /dev/null. My experience with Cupra so far has been very poor. I have a VZ2 on order and had a build week of wk5 2022. This has come and gone and then I am told I can't have the top-down camera, after my build week. Now have to wait for another build week? I would recommend you order one only if you have the patience of a saint and the stress levels of a sloth! Cupra customer services are hopeless too!

I had a SEAT many years ago (the one in my profile pic) and always found customer service to be good. The car wasn't great, but that was mainly because it had the afterthought DPF which was never intended for the PD engine, and also a few niggles here and there.

Sold my CLA 250 Sport for the VZ310, I do miss it sometimes because I really loved this car but I never regretted.

The only 2 things which I miss compared to the Formentor:
- The CLA had a bigger trunk
- The CLA's exhaust was sounding better

Had some minor (and not so minor) issues with the VZ but never been stuck or in situations where I couldn't drive it. When I had to visit the garage, they provided me a replacement car (and I was really positively surprised by the service provided by the Seat/Cupra dealer despite my car is an imported model that I didn't buy through them).

Yeah I'd love a more powerful model but the whole point of switching is to pay less not more, so I'm going to stick with the two options mentioned above rather than give in to temptation and get a vz model! ? My son has a Cupra Leon 280 (2016) and has been very please with it. However, I think things have changed since Cupra broke away from Seat to become an independent brand.

Well I listed only what was better before, in term of comfort the Formentor is actually much better than my former Mercedes.

This CLA that I had had very hard suspensions and on long trips, this nice sound of her was just too much especially on highway.

On long trips I was generally also ending up with back and head ache so that's the part I don't really miss about it

I think a few people have issues and are understandibly pissed off with the car.

I have had mine since May 21 and had the SOS issue which as explained to me by the dealer, could be triggering the odd other random issues I had with parking sensors etc. But the issues were really minor and didn't detract from what I think is a top car.

Since an update at the dealer last month it's been spot on and I can't complain.

Get the tech set up properly and off you go.

I suppose so long as it's under warranty, it's not too bad, it's those intermittent problems, or issues plain software issues (ACC) that worry me a bit.

I'm also a bit sick after reading the "top deals" sticky thread... The deals people were getting 6/12 months ago are amazing compared to now. ??

I think most of these issues are with RHD cars. I've had my LHD VZ2 since Aug 21 and had zero problems. Everything works perfectly and as it should.The only niggle I have is with a rattle from the grab handle above the rear right passenger but I can't be bothered to book it in until it's first service

I see you are in Spain

The ambient temp plays havoc with the infotainment in the UK

Even the previous generation get near freezing and good luck with the infotainment working

Had my car for 1000 miles and it’s had very few problems.

I think the problems are:
- Older Formentors are more buggy than newer Formentors
- People that can’t cope with technology (your username suggests you can)
- Complainers shout the loudest
- Some cars with actual issues

The ACC problem is blown way out of proportion. There’s people here who think it should be an Autopilot, and it’s not. The slowdown is a bug, but if you’re concentrating even an ounce, you can just press the accelerator lightly to drive through it. It’s slightly annoying, but that’s about it.

In my car the Infotainment is quick enough and hasn’t crashed.

The people with actually faulty cars are in the absolute minority. The majority of people just don’t post when their car is working fine and they’re enjoying it.

Unfortunately buying any car is a gamble. Go on any forum and you’ll find people with issues.

I guarantee there will be people in this thread saying “I had a whatever and it had no problems, the Formentor is rubbish because MINE had problems”. Which will prove my point quite well.

Couldn’t agree more with every part of this. I do have one suggestion though… how about we start a thread where everyday we each go on and say when our cars DON’T have a problem? Lol Of course, the only issue with that is that hardly anyone would actually do it because generally we’re only ever likely to make an effort to do something when there’s been a problem that we want to either get advice about or vent our frustration over.

The short story is the Formentor is a fantastic car but like almost every car, has its quirks. If you’re looking for the perfect car then just keep looking at the pictures in the brochures ?

It had the issue where it wouldn't overtake when using ACC - I de-activated the overtaking restriction function - no more issue.

I also activated the option in the car so I now have ACC or Std Cruise Control or Speed Limiter - they are all useful in different situations.

I personally dislike the lane guidance so I re-set it to remember the last setting ( always OFF )
I also switched off the dash warning that lane guidance is not active.

I preferred the MIB2 satnav in my Mk3 Leon Cupra - but I can live with this one.

A couple of nice to have features that were on the MIB2 units would be :
The capability to load radio station logos from a USB stick ( some don't auto load )
The capability to load personal POI from a usb stick ( I had the speed camera database loaded in my Leon )

Presumably you deactivated using obd?

Need to have mine done too,drives me nuts on along run,I can't believe it was released with this issue.

Echoing what others have said - it's not possible to judge the chances of getting issues with any car - it's not like the manufacturers publish stats on specific warranty claims.

Personally I have had my fair share of issues with my VZ1 245, all software related and hopefully fixable with an update when one is released (I'm on the latest available atm). Would I be bothering to post saying everything works fine... probably not.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I guess if it's possible to tweak with odb11 then that's not too bad, though I suppose you don't expect to have to go spending a load more cash on that after buying a 30/35k car lol. I'm surprised the dealers aren't doing as part of the PDI if it's a known fault.
