New expansion tank?

SEAT Parts have new expansion tanks without the silica bag, for less than £20. Is it worth fitting one on a 2019 CUPRA R with only 25k miles? The car has got SEAT warranty on it, might deleting the silica bag be an issue if there was a claim.

If it was me, I'd plan on replacing the coolant that is in it now with G12evo - after replacing that reservoir, your warranty company couldn't hold that against you as both parts are joint replacement for what is in there now.

Edit:- maybe share the part number of the replacement reservoir for the benefit of others who are considering doing this.

Just look on seatdirectparts, it's listed on there. I have the SEAT service plan on my car, so it's the SEAT warranty. I'll ask the dealer about the new expansion tank and G12evo coolant, nearer the time of the next service.

According to the sites own model search for mk3 Leon Cupra, 5Q0121407AA - Currently on sale at just under £19 on Seat Direct Parts

With that being said, ETKA shows 5Q0121407M as the correct updated tank without the bag for my 2016 mk3 Cupra 290, which is also on sale for just under £19

Why not just pull out the bag?
Depending on which bottle was fitted at the factory - you can't access the silica bag/capsule

Its a bit of a hassle, but you can remove the silica bag. Just make sure you have G12Evo in your system, as this contains silica. G13 should not have the silica added and relies on the bag.

Use angled needle nose pliers and you are able to remove it

Not ALL tanks have this 'tea bag'!
By all means - if you look through the filler neck and see a 'tea bag' you can carefully remove it and change your coolant to G12evo - but my tank, like the image above has a self contained silica bag - which is not accessible - you'd have to cut the tank open to get to it - so in this case you'd need a new tank without 'mit silicate'
I'm not convinced these type of tanks can leak the silicate - as it is contained in its own chamber - but new tanks aren't expensive so might be prudent to change when you change/flush your coolant.

Can any one clarify something, I've ordered a new tank, thinking it was the 5Q0121407AA, I came without the silica bag as expected but it lists having no coolant level sensor. Only the two plastic prongs in the its place that look plastic welded in place. From my understanding, particularly of the Ford Eco Boom's they had issues overheating from the lack of coolant, compounded by the the lack of a coolant level sensor in the tank.

Even the one listed on AKS tuning shows not having the level sensor in the Silica bag free bottle. Am I possible overthinking this.

The only one's I can find with a level sensor all a have the silica bag in the bottle.

I've removed the bag from my original bottle, but have been looking at replacing it as I'm still getting drops on coolant levels.
I've replaced the plastic coolant union vent under the turbo for the the 034 Motorsport one, as it had failed. I've replaced the tank lid. But its still loosing coolant. so Anyone got any idea's.

I have the 5Q0121407AA bottle - there is no silica bag and it does have the level sensor prongs.
They work because I kept the level low when fitting and switched on the ignition - it told me about low coolant.
Then I filled to correct level and switched on again - no low coolant warning.

Where did you get yours from. All the ones I look up are giving wrong parts for the new part code.

Thanks. I could swear I I've already ordered one of those from Euro Carparts, it had the black plastic posts into the tank, (not the metal ones I've got in the one now). It said it didn't have the a level sensor in it, so I assumed they didn't do anything, or wasn't conductive. I tried to swap the sensor from old one but it wouldn't come out. And broke that one. Ill get a another any try it.

The later version does have black legs into the tank - presume these are carbon & conductive.
Is not really a sensor - just an on/off switch, so when coolant is above the min level the circuit is made and all's well - if the level drops below these legs, the circuit is broken and you get an angry red waring!
