wheel dimensions for leon cupra mk1/lowering??

Hi

i purchased a leon cupra mk1 yesterday and will be picking it up tommorow.

one thing i cant stand is the alloys on the 180bhp version, they suck lol.

i want to change them to 17's or preferably 18's.

can anybody tell me whats the offset etc for this car so i can buy the correct size wheels?

and also on 17's how much can i lower it by and on 18's how much can i lower it by(i dont want it slammed , just on a nice low height.

7½" or 8" wide wheels with ET around 35 or 38.

225/45-17 or 225/40-18 is the right size.

40mm drop in hight is no problem, if you want it perfect, then get some coilovers.

ok so alloys

et 35 or 38 only with ej of 7.5 or 8"

is 40mm adequate for 18 and 17 inches or is it more for 17 inches drop?

I would say 18"x 8J ET35 with 40mm drop is the way to go

I dont understand, 40mm drop is adequate for the car, regardless of wheels diameter as the tyres should compensate and make the overall circumference of the wheel roughly the same. Most people will space their wheels out to get and eventual et of 30 or even 25. This is dependant of the width of the wheels and what width tyre you're looking at getting. IIRC LCR alloys are ET35 and 18x8. Many people run 225 tyres front and back and use 10mm spacers on front as 15 on the back making their ETs ET25 on the front and ET20 on the back. I hope some of this wasn't random drivvle

Dug up from a thread in a galaxy, far, far away...

16" pre-facelift Cupra multispokes are ET42.
17" facelift Cupra "starfishes" are ET38.
18" LCR alloys are ET38.

thanks for the reply guys, i dont want to get into spacers and all that too much for my brain lol,

18" on et35 and 8j is the way forward on 40mm drop i think.

last questions, is it better to buy springs for stock shocks or to get coilovers, if coilovers, what do you guys think of the JOM ones which are budget price?

if it was me, i would never fit cheap coilovers, all friends i have who have tryed the cheap ones only had problems, i would recommend something like AP coilovers if you looking for something not expensive, but sure they ar not the same price as JOM.

if i had to choose between Jom coilovers and only lowering springs, and could not get more £ on the car budget, then i would take the springs.

springs it is then, what make springs are good?

i would look at H&R or Eibach maybe.
look around and see what options they have, some do 50/30 others 40/40 and so on..

your right about the joms, alot of bad reviews, fk ak coilovers aint too bad though by the reviews and priced about the same, if i do get coilovers do i need to buy separate drop mounts for front and back?
