Hi, this is my 1st post as im thinking of signing for a new leon.

Im looking at Black FR 2.0 TDI DPF Man with 18" and bluetooth, 08 plate and 5k miles.

The dealer are dropping it from £16600 sticker to £13600 and also giving me £1500 for my 52 plate corsa 1.7 Di 5dr GLS with 60k miles. Glass puts the corsa at £1950 tho.

I think this a good as £13600 is what Glass puts as a trade-in for the Leon as it stands.

Im looking at a PCP with GAP as ive done my reading and that seams to be the best for me.

They are offering that at £258/month for 35 months 12k/year with a GFMV of £6405.

The total ammount payable works out as £17150.

What do you guys think who have bought one? Its taken a few days and also playing them off against another seat dealer but im pretty much ready to sign.

At the moment you can throw Glass's guide out of the window.

Have a read of the thread about Cupra depreciation which shows what the figures are in the real world.

Back in August I paid my £3.50 for the proper quote from Glass's and it was way way off what I could get in part exchange, I was shocked by how inaccurate it was. The free quotes from Parker's and What Car were far more accurate.

What is the APR on that deal?, I have known the PCP plans on used cars to be a rip-off the Mrs was quoted over 25% at a main dealer once, she got it a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Also it's worth shopping around for GAP insurance as I've read it can be bought a lot cheaper independantly than from a dealer.

OK, thanks folks. Advice much appreciated.

Unfortunatly i have limited options of where to go as i live in Aberdeen. Edinburgh was unable to beat the aberdeen price and other national ones i was looking at delivery charges and not being able to see the car etc.

Will have a think about it and probaby take the offer as its as good as i think im gonna get without travelling lots in which case ill save a few pounds. OK if its nearby but even £200 cheeper in Edinburgh for example is starting to be a waste of time.

Some non-Seat delers have Leons but not the FR and i think the seats are very comfy, i want to buy a set as recliner lounge chairs!

Thanks again,
Stuart

Defo speak to Irfan, good deals and good service. He has a very good reputation on here and understandably so. Take it from me as a very satisfied customer.
Cheap flights to London can still be had and buying brand new there is no risk. Alternatively, if I can wrangle a business trip to Edinburgh I'll drive it up at cost ;)

I don't blame you for not travelling for the sake of a few hundred pounds. I was in the same situation with my new car.

I could have got one in Leicester for £200 less than my local dealer in Leeds would offer and that included delivery to my door on low loader.

Two things put me off.

First of all they were valuing the Cupra without seeing it and I was concerned on delivery they might spot something wrong with it and try and knock the price down.

Secondly if there were any problems on delivery it is much easier just to go to the local dealer the car came from. Out of 5 brand new cars 3 have needed paintwork doing due to things not being right, I doubt another dealer would be keen to take on these and might try to blame me for it.

I'll miss the performance and drive of the car but that's about it.

Picked a bad colour as Inferi Black is impossible to keep clean, white would have been a better choice.

The main thing is the issues and the dealers incompetence at fixing them. Had a new back seat cover fitted a couple of months back as the red stitching was coming away. Was clearing out the car at lunchtime and found out the back seat isn't even attached anymore [:@] That and a string of other things.

Buy the Car!

I've run the figures through the SEAT finance system (I'm a SEAT dealer), the price is good and the finance is about right they're not ripping you off or being greedy although I can tell you that if you were to push them a little they would be able to drop the monthly figure by about a fiver.

TDi FR's aren't dropping their price like the petrol Leons are so thats not an issue and its important to build up a good relationship with your local dealer. He has to make a living too! Most of the people on here who call the dealers "stealers" and moan about them are the one's who've used the resources of the local dealer for test drives etc and then bought a car from hundreds of miles away just to save 2 or 3 hundred quid, human nature dictates (rightly or wrongly) they're not gonna be impressed with the customer and therefore not give him the best service. Specialist Cars are a good company with a good reputation for customer care for both sales and aftersales, they'll appreciate your business and look after you.

Some good advice from Gary, but the comment about people moaning about dealers...

Without naming names I went to two local dealers when looking to buy the Cupra.

Went into the first one and saw a Cupra in the showroom, was last thing on a Sunday and the car wasn't taxed but they said the car would be put on demo next week so ring for a test drive. Rang on the Wednesday and booked a Test Drive. On the Friday got a call saying the car was in the body shop getting a body kit fitted so I could only test drive the FR and wanted to test them back to back. Managed to book a test drive in the Cupra at the other dealer for the day after and drove the FR but they lost the sale because the Cupra wasn't available to drive when I'd booked.

The other dealer I ordered the car on the day of the test drive. Once I'd signed on the dotted line the whole sales process was a nightmare. The salesman was off sick they couldn't track my order, was delayed 6 weeks then another car identical turned up. The car was damaged in their care the first time it was in for warranty work to be done. Warranty work is generally not done right and needed to go back to be sorted. They even put the wrong oil in at the service and overcharged me the already rip-off price.

So in short I tried to buy a car and go back for servicing, but they couldn't care less about me as a customer. I used the resources for the test drive, bought the car and used them for servicing and they still treat me badly. [:@]

I'm sure there are a few good dealers out there and I'm sure Gary@Cookies is a good dealer but in my experience most dealers deserve the flak they get

Hi,

Have just went for it. Been and paid deposit. I know ill get many replies saying i cd have got better but i was happy and thats not often the case.

Have paid the deposit but not signed agreements yet, will do so on collection. Will try to whittle a bit off, as far as i know my contract law, the deposit doesnt imply ive accepted the credit agreement.

Although, if i have agreed then im not fussed cos im happy.

Will be collecting next friday, wd have been middle of the week but im away all next week working :( THey have it on the forecourt so i dont imagine it can go missing or get lost in paperwork, if there are any issues ill just walk along and sit on the roof untill they give me some keys.

Spoke with somebody who bought an old mans leon from the same dealer and hes been happy with service, nothing exception, just average meaning no probs and fair prices. Ive seen a few users on the forum with other opinions but thats what a forum is all about!

Thanks folks,

Stuart

Stuart,
Having read all the posts in this tread I would say go for it. If you are happy with the price, whether it be cash or payments, then it is the right thing for you. Possibly in todays climate one should be more prudent with the cash but I have always let the heart rule the head when it comes to cars. Sometimes you make a bad decision, sometimes a good one, but they will all give you enjoyment, especially the FR TDI. I have had mine for over 6000 miles now and the wife came back last week with the car to say "it's getting better and better".

As for dealers I have bought many cars, both new and second hand, and you will always get good and bad. However, I have no complaints with my local dealer, the service has been excellent. If not I would not be on my second Leon in less than 18 months.
I would also agree with Gary's last paragraph.

Have fun
