I've been thinking about getting a daily driver for some time now, just to keep the miles off the Ibiza, and so I could strip it out properly and put some fixed back buckets in it. I had in my head, I wanted either a small engined Mk2 Ibiza, Mk2 Golf or a Mk4 Polo, but, this came up at a bargain price:

A 1994 Mk2 Ibiza GTi 2.0 8v. 109,000 miles, T&T until July, Mk3 Cupra alloys, Sony headunit and disc changer, Thatcham CAT 1 alarm, and lots of service history. It has the usual Mk2 arch rot, and some dents, but overall it's not bad and drives well for a 16 year old car!

As usual, with a Mk2 Ibiza there's a list of things as long as my arm to do, but I'm only planning on keeping it for a year so I don't want to spent much.

The O/S/F tyre definately needs replacing, but all the others seem fine. I've removed all 4 arch liners and cleaned the arches. There is some rust starting to bubble, but nothing to worry about. There are two holes on the rear footwell that need welding, and after noticing the fuel flap wasn't sitting correctly, I found this:

The car was fitted with a mid-facelift grille, with a mesh insert. I've put the original insert back it and fitted it all correctly. I've removed the GTi badge from the back (bringing some paint with it :(), and I now have one of the badge trims for the reflectors on the boot.

The car will be welded up and hopefully on the road by the end of July. I'm going to fit the black carpet I removed from the 20vt, and also fit the spare Mk3 Cupra gearknob I have (not a fan of the Mk2 one at all!)

I will update with pictures when things start happening!

Thanks for looking.

Thanks, John! Another one save from the scrapyard (atleast for another year!). I'm finding it hard to not spend money on it at the moment though!

There's no F in Quality..

I spotted that one for sale to, but the timing wasn't right ;)

Looks like an ideal daily though Mart..... which I can see turning into yet anoher 'project'.... ;)

I mean, you can't be a respected member of the site, and drive around in something that looks/runs tatty, and then try and sell it on in a years time without putting the effort in to restore it to it's former glory!!! ;)

You decided to keep it then :D lol
I may still have it when you come to sell it anyway...would save me doing the work to that aswel as mine!

Have you sorted the grille out now then cause i've still got the grilles and surround seperated if you need anything else?

And if you dont like the old gear knob i wouldn't mind having it off you for mine ;)

Cheers, Dan!

Timing wasn't really right for me either, but for the price it was, and it only being 20 miles down the road I couldn't really say no.

Haha! Aslong as it drives then I'm more than happy. I'm looking out for some lowering springs though :)

Yes, I've decided to keep it. The welding it needs looks pretty simple. You'll be the first to know when the time comes to sell, Dan.

After removing the grille surround, and speaking to Ben, I ordered the mid facelift grille insert, as the surround seemed to fit okay. It was just missing most of the fixing bolts and nuts.

I'll definately be removing the gear knob, I'll PM you once it's out of the car.

I like it mate, like the colour, would polish up nicely! God there's some severe rottage on that petrol cap housing! Poor thing! :p

Cheers dude.

I doubt it'll ever get a polish! Hopefully the rust will get sorted over the next few weeks, aiming to have it on the road for the end of July.

A few updates!

The silver Ibiza's insurance runs out tomorrow, so the purple one is now insured, has had all the holes plated up and is ready for it's MOT tomorrow. It's currently got my track wheels on the back until I get two tyres sorted this week. I had a bit of a 'mare with the petrol tank and filler neck but fingers crossed it's all sorted now.

I managed to find some reflectors on a Cupra in the breakers the other day and these are now fitted on the back. Also, the Mk3 Cupra gear knob, a new Genuine leather gear gator (£0.99 eBay bargain!) and some black matts I found in the shed. I've uprated the speakers, and fitted my old parcelshelf with the 6x9's, false boot floor, and 6 disc changer that used to be in the 20vt. I've also got some lowering springs ready to be fitted once it's on the road, and have removed all the red piping from the bumpers.

Will update with pictures soon.
