Yet another thread on this one I'm afraid - it's all I seem to post about

Currently I have the bluetooth option kit fitted - it pairs with my Android phone for phone calls without issue, however it pairs once as a headset, then once as a media capable device with each use.
Because of the way it pairs, it is not possible to get the phone to remember that I don't want to use the car to output media; this means that I cannot hear my SatNav instructions (from the phone) as they are output as a bluetooth media stream (which the car cannot interpret).

I've been doing a little Googling ahead of my first service next week, and found the following threads:
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=303785&page=6
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=313057&highlight=bluetooth+media

In both, the suggestion is that it might be possible to switch A2DP on via VagCom.

Has anyone done this successfully?

If not, what's a realistic alternative for either:

1. Enabling media to be streamed to the existing head unit (keeping use of the stalk controls for bluetooth, and keeping the iPod input)

or

2. Preventing the car from declaring itself as media capable.

I did have a lengthy discussion with the dealer and Seat UK when I first discovered this issue when I got the car without any success. However now it's p*ssed me off enough to have a second pop at it..

Just back from a morning at the dealership.

They were kind enough to let me hover in the workshop and we went through the various configuration / diagnostic screens.
We couldn't find anything similar to this http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showpost.php?p=3472797&postcount=111 and the technician was reluctant just to start fiddling round at random (and fair play to him for saying so). He thought it might be something to do with the different versions of Bluetooth (2.1 on my phone vs 2.0 on the car) however I'm confident it isn't because of backwards compatibility.
We opted to send in a detailed technical report to Seat UK (which will be sent out off on Monday) and the dealership will get back in touch with me once they have a response. We've supplied detailed information about the problem (experienced on two different phones both running different versions of Android), some screenshots from my phone of the settings etc., and I've offered to speak to Seat UK directly if they need further information.

The problem:
---------------
- Car connects using headset profile to phone
- Car disconnects
- Car connects again using A2DP profile with phone

All this happens within 60 seconds of switching the ignition on.
Because there is a second pairing I cannot use the phone's bluetooth settings for the car kit to disable the media option. If I try to do this, the next time I connect the phone the media option is re-enabled when the A2DP connection happens.

--------

And now we wait...

I'll update this thread when I have fresh information.

Mightn't be that relevant but my bluetooth module knacked up a fortnight after picking up the car.
It was replaced and after that I now have an extra option on the voice menu called music which allows me to stream music from the phone to the head unit and change track etc via the voice control.
The new module appears on my phone as VW PHONE.

Hmmm interesting. Can I ask what phone you're using with the car?

Just a bump for those watching the thread - chased the dealership today as I hadn't heard from them. They're still waiting to hear from Seat Technical.
Will update further when I get some news..

Let us know as soon as you hear something.

Had a callback from the dealership today, with the responses from (repeatedly chased) Seat Technical as follows:

1. Seat Technical will not talk directly to customers.
2. They cannot find any information about the software on the Motorola Atrix (v2.2)
3. It is not listed on the current set of supported phones.
4. They cannot switch off the bluetooth media streaming with an update.

So basically they've told me to :censored: off. Nice.

The dealership have emailed me the technical enquiry number, and I'll be taking it through customer care to see if I can get any further that way.
I'm also going to dig further into the Android dev community forums and see if I can get a better workaround.
I may also swipe the girlfriend's iPhone 3GS for testing: according to the compatibility list it should stream music. If it doesn't then I'll log it with the dealership as a faulty module and get it replaced..

Any news on this?

I chased it with Seat UK who were distinctly uninterested (after all they've already got my money).
I've also checked with my local car electronics specialist who think it's most likely a car firmware issue.

I'm now waiting on the release of 2.3.4 Android for the Atrix before further digging as i'm time poor at the moment due to work pressure and a family member's critical illness.
Will post again when I've got anything further. Apologies for the delay in updating.

Will post again when I've got anything further.

Well it took me a while but I'm back with an update - apologies for resurrecting this thread but I thought I'd keep it in one place (particularly if anyone still has notifications switched on).

Since I last posted, I've done the following..

1. Been into dealership (who've been really helpful throughout) and spent the morning with one of their mechanics investigating the control module configuration options - no joy.

2. Now tested the car with a total of 6 phones:
- Nexus One - Android 2.2.2 through to 2.3.2
- Motorola Atrix - Android 2.2 through to 2.3.4
- Samsung Galaxy Nexus - Android 4.0
- iPhone 3GS - iOS 4
- iPhone 4 - iOS 5
- iPhone 4s - iOS 5
All phones recognised the car as a media capable device. None could switch off the media channel permanently (although this is possible with every other bluetooth media device I've ever used).
In all cases, the car did not play the bluetooth media stream or even recognise that one was present (with or without the iPod connected and regardless of whether set to Radio / Media on head unit).

3. Tested my current phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) with a friends 2011 Leon standard bluetooth kit - media streaming worked perfectly.

4. Established that my car was built 31st July 2010. **

As far as I'm concerned I've proved that it's not my phone, negating the weak computability argument based on testing of a limited set of old phones).
So last weekend I spoke with the dealership again, who contacted Seat UK (pointing out that even the iPhone 4, which is supposedly compatible) did not work.

Seat UK's response was emailed to me Monday morning - "Not on the compatibility list" [:@]

That was it - I saw red and phoned Seat UK directly.

After a fairly lengthy discussion with them in which I explained that if necessary I would look for a remedy in the courts if necessary, I've been called today by the dealership to arrange to take my car in and get the kit fixed or replaced, or get my money back.

Hopefully I should get a result either way within the next couple of weeks.. I will post back when I do with the root cause (whatever it is) for completeness.

**My current working theory is this:
Bluetooth kits prior to 31st May 2010 manufacture date do not support media streaming.
My car was built 31st July 2010, but I suspect that it's been fitted with the older bluetooth control module and the correct dongle - this would lead to the pattern of behaviour that I've seen.

Car's booked in for a week from 18th Feb - dealership are giving me a loaner and will be getting a Seat UK tech in to look at it. Fix, replace or refund is the order of the day.

:)
