revs or idle

Pleae help anyone. When I start my car in the morning or if its not been on for a while, it idles higher on the rev counter than it should do. Whilst it is doing this the exhaust "chuffs" Then I have to touch the accelerator to keep it form juddering about. After about two minutes the engine...
