Now that winter is here my car is having this problem again. It starts 1st time in the cold, but when i reverse off my drive and stop to put it into 1st, the revs drop straight past idle and it cuts out. Takes a long time to get it started again. Anyone had a problem like this before?

Clean the throttle body. Does it do it when once the engines warmed up?

Cleaned it about 2 weeks ago. And nope only does it when the engine is cold and when it is really cold outside (frost and ice on the car)

yes. forgot to mention that. is it due to the induction kit sucking in to cold air when the engine is cold?

Could possibly be.

Once upon a time when I had an induction kit on my old 1.4 it would struggle to start in the winter. On my current one it still starts first time with a standard air box.

Could be an area to look at???

Hmmm. may have to think of something to help it in the cold. I have a breather filter on the crank case pipe. If i removed this and fed it into the intake pipe, would this make any difference?

Havnt got the standard one and dont really wana be spending much money on my car as insurance and tax is next month :(

I think I had the same problem with my 1.4. It was only when the car was cold that it cut out or didn't want to start.
It was a fuel sensor, I think it was the one that controls how much petrol is injected when the engine starts. It was like £40 and the proble was solved!
