1.4 TFSI compressor

I was under the impression that the 'new' 1.4 TFSI engine on the Leon had both a turbocharger and a compressor, just like the other [more powerful] variants of the engine found on the Golf but now someone told me that the engine on the Leon only has a turbocharger but no compressor.

Is that true ?

If it only has a turbocharger how come it gets that powerful torque so low in the rev range ?

I think it's only the 170bhp one in the Golf GT which has both.

Don't Turbos always give loads of torque from low revs? The only thing the a compressor would be no lag...?

When you lot talk compressor, do you mean a supercharger?

As I thought a turbocharger has a compressor in it anyway..

Now don't shoot me down if I'm wrong but I read that:

Supercharger gives high torque at low engine speeds

Turbocharger comes in at slightly higher engine speeds.

Effectively this means that a smaller output engine will have high torque charecteristics and power of a larger capacity engine with better fuel economy of a smaller engine.

The link that I got the above from is: http://www.gizmag.com/go/4595/

Not usual but then neither were dual clutch gearboxes up until the advent of the DSG.

Apparently the 1.4 TSI 125ps is a stop gap as VW are having major problems supplying the twin charged 140 and 170ps engines. There is a lengthy wait if you want to order a car with this engine at the moment. So the 140ps engine is not offered on pretty much anything other than the touran or the a3 at the moment and the 170ps is exclusive to the golf. Nice engine though - I had a shot of a Golf 1.4TSI 170 and it had a lovely linear power delivery - you wouldn't know it was a forced induction engine if it didn't have a std fit boost gauge ;)

would putting fr bumpers on it make the insurance go up?
i thought that it wouldnt because its a non performance upgrade?

Non-performance upgrades normally increase nickability and thats what the insurance people would look for.
