17cm speakers.....

For the audio guru's:

i've read the speaker replacement sticky and it states 16.5cm (165mm) 6.5 inch speakers and autoleads speaker adaptors SAK-3103.

i'm looking to replace the factory mid range speaker and retain use of the factory tweeter.

ive seen 2 different products:

A Phonocar Pro-Tech 2/636 high power mid bass speakers available online from car audio direct:

i can get hold of these 1st thing in the morning, they are 17cm (170mm), but again classed as 6.5 inch speakers from car audio centre locally:

so will the 17cm speakers fit in the Mk2 Leon, as it appears that both 16.5 cm and 17cm speakers are both classed as 6.5 inch speakers...... using the autoleads adaptors??

I've got these and they fit without a problem when used with adaptors.

I'd consider some coaxials if I were you as the stock tweeter is a bit naff. At least you would then have the option of disabling the tweeter and just using the coaxials.

They're pretty good. Make sure you also get the wiring adaptors as well. Makes life a lot easier and gives you the option to disable the stock tweeter without cutting/ruining the car wiring.

thats what i was worrying about, i didn't want to be cutting the original car wiring to bits.
i think the wiring adaptor comes with theautoleads SAK-3103 speaker adaptor rings.

ill bob down to the car audio shop in the morning and have a look

No worries. There's a recent thread on here where someone is going to try some speaker adaptors that don't need trimming. Might be worth keeping an eye on.
