2 bikes in the boot?

I will have a Leon ST (Mk3) on an upcoming cycling trip and would love to travel with both of our road bikes in the boot. 2 people, minimal luggage, so rear seats can stay flat. Ideal would be bikes upright with front wheel off, but we are alright with laying them down with cardboard and a blanket in between the bikes.

Has anyone fit 2 bikes in the boot of the Leon ST with the rear seats flat? Upright or laying down only?

I've had two road bikes and minimal luggage in mine with the seats down. Fit fine. I had the boot floor in the lower position and covered the bikes with blankets to stop them damaged.

Laying down would be fine, but not enough height to have bikes standing upright.
Front wheel out so the handle bars can lay flat.

Assuming these are sports bike (no 'guards) you'll get 2 in flat, probably with just the front wheels off.

I have had 2 mountain bikes in the back no problem. Front wheels off, pedals off, a blanket between the 2 bikes to stop them getting scratched. Loads of room left over.

I bought my ST with that in mind but ended up with a bike carrier instead!
