Hi all

I've just got hold of a July 2006 06 plate Seat Leon 1.9 TDi 105ps Stylance with a 5 speed gearbox for my other half

81k on the clock with full Seat service history.

Car drives spot on no issues with power delivery and doesn't seem to be using any oil or water.

However there are 2 issues that id appreciate some advice on: -

1) There is a small amount of oil escaping from the vent hole on the front of the EGR valve - i understand this is "normal" but should i be worrying / what can be done to stop this - at the moment its just a small amount and is easily wiped away

2) There is an intermittant "rattle" coming from the gearbox end of the engine - its not there unless the car is right up to temperature (90 deg on temp guage) - the clutch feels fine and doesn't slip and there is no judder pulling away but the rattle is definately there on idle and disappears if you raise the revs on the engine to say 1800 - is this the DMF, roughly how long before i get problems?

I have a half decent aftermarket warranty which covers the clutch and DMF up to 100k miles and hence would like to try and make a claim if it is the DMF but im not sure if they will replace unless it actually breaks which i understand can cause a lot of other damage?

Any thoughts / advice greatfully received.

Kev:)

Does the rattle change pitch or stop when you press/depress the clutch? If so it could be the release bearing.

Pic of the oil leak would be helpful if you can get one?

Hi mate, I've got a 1.9tdi too and have been told its quite common for the DMF to go. If you can feel a slight vibration on the top on the peddle it probably that. If left to long i was told it can damage the gearbox casing, whether or not thats true, I'm not sure but I'd get it checked out.

Hey man, the rattle is most likely the flywheel,
Had the same issue myself on an 07 1.9tdi Sport,
Got a solid conversion a few weeks back and it's 100%.
It wasn't nearly as expensive getting the solid conversion as it is to replace the dmf and it runs just as smooth!
Definetly wouldn't be waiting for it to pack in completely.

Thanks for the replies

Car is booked into local Seat independant specialist tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion of the solid conversion.

i had thought of doing this however others had suggested / reported problems after switching to SMF?.

Will see what they say

Hi All

Quick update if anyone is interested!

Car has now been into the local independant Seat Specialist VASS Tech in Rugby.

They diagnosed the EGR valve as having a split diaphram and requiring replacement which has now been completed with the warranty company agreeing to pay - result.

The rattle on idle did not present itself while the car was in for service (typical as its intermittant!) but i have noticed since getting the car back that the only time the rattle is evident is when the car has been on an extended run and is very hot.

Once it is hot it sometimes feels as if it has a very slight missfire on idle as if one injector may be suspect in its spray pattern perhaps?

As the engine doesn't idle as smoothly as it could i think that's what sets the rattle off in the transmission which i suspect is probably the DMF

The clutch exhibits none of the symptons described elsewhere as a failing DMF so i can only assume that the slightly rough idle is causing the DMF to rattle slightly.

Since noticing this i have added a "double" dose of Millers ECO to the diesel which seems to have improved things but the car is yet to go on a long run again so i am not 100% sure if the problem has gone away - can anyone recommend a decent injector cleaner? - ive heard BG244 is great but expensive.

One other problem was noted during the service - 3 out of 4 glow plugs were open circuit - they sucessfully changed 3 of the 4 but the 4th is seized and they were worried about it snapping in the head - can anyone recommend a way of removing it?

Thanks
