2010 Leon CR170 fr - thinking of swapping for a 2010 Exeo Sport Tech.

Hey folks,

I currently have a 60 plate Leon FR CR170 TDI with every option on it except leather and recently have been looking and a few other cars to swap.

I have seen a 60 plate saloon Exeo Sport Tech CR170 TDI with similar spec except no Xenons and no front parking sensors.

My Leon has 50k the Exeo is on 40k and I had a drive of the Exeo and it's a very nice car.

My problem is, the value. It's at a dealer for 11k and mine is trade in at just under 10k but I see the Exeo as a 9k car as they seem to drop like a stone on values and seem as hard car to sell in the future.

Do you think I'm being stupid swapping my leon for this? I like the Exeo and like my FR and the Exeo brings a touch of comfort that my Leon doesn't but I don't want to buy a car that is harder to sell and worth a lot less in just a few years than my Leon.

Some opinions please on the depreciation side and owners of both. :)

Thanks

I quite like the exeo but I find it looks very dated inside, I'm not sure if it's because it is basically an older shape Audi A4. Not that I'm saying the Leon is very modern.

I have also heard on the grapevine that the exeo is being scrapped as a model, not sure how true that is.

But a neighbour has a red sport tech estate and I have to admit I have a soft spot for it.

It is totally up to you, but personally I'd keep the leon FR. All cars drop value as they get older, but the one good thing about the Leon CR170 is people will buy them used as the Golf Mk6 wasn't as well taken as the Mk5.

Thanks mate for your input.

I only went to get my Leon serviced and ended up taking the Exeo for a test drive.

It's such a nice place to be inside the car and although it's not current the quality of the interior is iced than the leon.

I really like it it's the depreciation that doesn't sit well with me on it! :(

I know they are both the CR170 but are the engines the same as the one in the Exeo seems louder and more like a PD style startup and mine is quite refined for a diesel.

I know what you mean, mine was serviced last week and I could have bought a few cars while I was there.

Yeah they will be the same engine, but my car sounds a lot quieter now that it has been serviced so could be just that.

Got my se tech a year ago, 2011 36k for 10k, amazing car IMO and better than the leon if you do long distance drives

I've done this change my self, had a 60' plate FR cr170 DSG and traded from a 13 Exeo 170 sport tech.

The car is a big upgrade in terms of quality and refinement. I didn't mind the dash in my Leon but the Exeo's is a far nicer place to sit. The BOSE stereo is awesome. Probably one of my favourite features.

Bear in mind the car is a 10year old+ design and tech. I don't even get bluetooth audio streaming for example.

I needed more space hence the change. In terms of value I reckon you are right - the Leon is a more desirable car and I guess easier to sell. My almost new (8mths old, 3k on odo) was £15.5k. Whilst I'd like it to be worth £11k @ 3 years old I doubt it. £9k is a fairer retail valuation I would have thought.

I plan to keep mine as the family car so don't mind if it's worthless in years to come!

In fact to add - I went for a loan on this car but I got a PCP quote @ 10k/annum and the GFV after 36months was £6,500 so £11k is overpriced imo.

To add - just read your comment about the engine. Yes same basic engine bout mounted longitudinally instead of transverse. I too noticed it was louder than in the Leon. Strange as there is a lot more soundproofing in the Exeo!

I'm not so sure, the Skoda really is excellent. My father has an old shape model, one of the last ones, the quality is ace. It is dated now, but the interior is almost on par with an Audi A4 (B7) on which the Exeo is based. The newer Superbs are miles ahead of the older models and would be much newer tech than the Exeo. They won't be as much fun to drive of course, more comfy cruiser than sporty saloon.

I would pick the Superb over an Exeo, especially if I could find a 3.2 model.....

Thanks for all the responses but unfortunately, the Exeo I was looking at sold and to be honest, although I liked the car, I can't really come to terms with getting rid of my Leon as it's been a really great car so far and I can't see me parting with it now.

I'd like a new car but don't want to sell this so it's best just to keep it.
