You guys are not going to believe this.....

2 years ago bought car, turbo whistled after few weeks, bought turbo technics one, sent to my mechanic (who has done lots of work for me and friends in the past) who fitted, job done.

Dec2013 faulty wiring in crankshaft sensor loom meant car was parked up over xmas while we spent ages looking for and fixing the broken wire... Off road for 2 weeks.

Jan 2014 turbo started whistling again, ok fair enuf bad luck and timing, ill sort it and time to sell the car

Still Jan 2014 so bought a 2nd hand one on ebay and got it fitted by my mechanic (same as last time) it lasted 30 miles and went pop... Drank 4 litres of oil.... Gutted... Ok thats wht i get for buyin cheap shite... Luckily there was no damage to engine, (i honestly dont know how haha)

Feb 2014 So towed car to my mechanics, got my turbo technics one re-cored and put back in (same mechanic as did last 2) and collected it from workshop with 4 lights on dash (abs, traction, puncture and steering) and no boost...
So immediately took it back, after a bit of diagnostics we found 2 breaks in the front rhs abs cable, same side as he just stripped to fit turbo. Re connected the wires .. No joy... Figured the cable hadnt been put in right and been tugged during steering, so replaced abs sensor too, still no joy..

At this stage i went on holiday (st lucia, was awesome loads of rum and didnt think of car once :D ) and conveniently mechanic was also away that week too... So on return home i took another look at car with a mate, we found yet another break in the abs cable (actually inside the car and not the exposed cable in arch - this shows how much force it was yanked with) so after 2 full afternoons worth of work, and alot of swearing, we got it rewired and that fixed my dash lights YAY.... But still no boost.. And no response from mechanic..

TONIGHT... Lack of boost investigation began... After checking the obvious stuff like vacuum pipes, i decided to get under car and remove the turbo inlet pipe to get good look at turbo blades... You wont beleive what i found.... 2 large peices of debris lodged into my new turbo, one was the shaft off my old turbo, and the other was the nut for the top of that shaft, (ive got pics which ill post up tomorrow.) now if you know the inlet pipe im talking about, its a 2 foot long pipe, that runs from the air filter/maf to the turbo blades, so no foreign particles could get in, especially not large peices the size of your baby finger!

Pissed off is an understatement. This mechanic f**ked up big time with abs sensor and turbo by not checking the pipes (prob the easiest one to check too) lol

That's terrible, some of these so called mechanics could not find their arse with both hands in a brightly lit room

Is he a company or a sole trader or a c*ck
If one of the first two then take him to the small claims court to recover your money

If he's the third one, then a friendly chat with him from yourself and a few largish friends should be enough to get at least some of your money back

Hope you manage to get at least some satisfaction, I guess probably quite a few people on have been in similar situation
So know how pie*sed of you must feel

I can only feel for the poor lad who had to come collect you when it went pop the third time LOL, nice z4 now do just get it off the drive asap before the bad luck spreads to the bmw lol

Make sure when the turbo gets replaced this time they also replace the turbo oil feed pipe and unions,
That probably what screwed the original and the next one. Whenever you replace the turbo it's best practice to replace the oil feed pipe and unions and make sure the drain to the sump is clear.
