Hi,

Well, I'm relatively new here - I have been reading the forums for a while but have only just recent decided to register, so hello everyone!

Sorry if this turns into a bit of a rant however I would like to share my experience and also find out if there is anyone else out there who is in the same boat as me.

So this story starts back in January, 17th January 2015 to be precise when I took delivery of an ex-demo Seat Leon FR 2.0TDI DSG 14 plate with technology pack and various extras (quite a few as it was a demo model). One of the extras was the lane assist technology which I don't need or want to rely on as I'm perfectly able to drive but hey, it was cheaper to go for the ex-demo model with pretty much all of the add-ons compared to a brand new model with only the sound pack add-on.

Pretty much within a week of receiving the vehicle i realised that the lane assist wasn't working, whenever I would try to enable it an error would display. Something along the lines of "Lane assist not available", I also noticed that when activating the high beam I would have to do so twice as the first time would error out with the following error "Error: beam assist". This is where all of the problems began! As soon as I was aware that there were faults I contacted the dealership who happily took the car back in promptly to take a look and had the car for a few days. Unfortunately they were unable to correct the issue and had contacted SEAT technical and also a local Volkswagen garage to arrange for the cars camera to be re-calibrated. This process took a few weeks but finally the car was taken back and re-calibrated.

Success! The issue was resolved and both the lane assist and beam assist were finally working however, that would not last for very long. I was on my way to Shrewsbury which is about an hour's drive from me when all of a sudden the errors flagged up while driving and once again both systems were no longer working. The dealership was once again called and arranged to have the car back for a third time however this time they were unable to rectify the issue. In total this lasted for a few months until I finally contacted SEAT's support line and they liaised with the dealership and also SEAT technical. Unfortunately, a few months later the dealership admitted to SEAT that they were unable to look at the car due to lack of staff and technical knowledge for the system.

SEAT were good enough to find another local SEAT garage who were happy to take a look, let's do a date check - we are now at 27th July! 6-7 months had gone by and the car was still in the same state it had been back in January. The garage had a look at the car and replaced various components, in total I believe it's been through 7 camera modules and 4 radar units and numerous calibration attempts of which all but one failed. The other dealership has had the car for over a month and was unable to correct the faults, luckily SEAT technical agreed to have the car back and arranged to send it to Milton Keynes. The date is now 1st September, SEAT technical have collected the car from the dealership and begin their diagnostics.

A week in to having the car, technical determine that the windscreen is out of alignment and this could be one of the reasons the systems have been failing but personally I'm not convinced this is the issue. The windscreen will be replaced and the calibration will be carried out again and I should hear back from them on Monday as to how it went. I've lost all hope and don't believe for one minute that the call on Monday will bring me any good news but hey, I will have to wait and find out!

Just to point out the time line to show how long this has been going on for:

17th January 2015 - Car was collected from my local SEAT dealership and within a week the fault was reported
6 Months, 11 days (192 days)
27th July 2015 - Car was sent to another local dealership as the first gave up
1 Month, 6 days (37 days)
1st September 2015 - Car was collected and sent to Milton Keynes for further diagnosis.
12 days
12th September 2015 - The day I write this post

That's a grand total of 7 Months and 27 days (239 days) and the car still isn't fixed, so far I haven't had access to the vehicle for 1 Month, 17 days (48 days) which is quite frustrating.

I can guarantee I have missed out details as documenting all of this will have taken forever as there is so much that has gone on but I just wanted to provide an overview of what has happened and what it is like to deal with SEAT customer care and the time frames involved for resolving issues. Unfortunately from this experience I can't recommend SEAT nor the local dealership and this experience has certainly put me off buying another SEAT which is a shame as I really enjoy the car. The minimum I would recommend is to NOT order the lane assist add-on as so far it has caused more hassle than it's worth. Without the add-on the car would be perfect and fault free!

I would like to know if anyone out there has had similar experiences with either dealing with SEAT customer care or has had any issue with the lane assist in their vehicle. If you could share your experience that would be amazing as I would love to hear from others because so far it seems that SEAT are dragging their feet and it's like trying to get blood out of a stone :(

I hope you enjoy the read, sorry if this is the wrong section to post this but I just wanted to let others know what happens when you have a fault within warranty and how long it takes to get things resolved.

I'll try and attach some pictures of the car but as I'm a new member I may not be able to, but hey - I'll try!

Thanks for reading, sorry if this has bored you :)

EDIT: Unfortunately I'm unable to add any images as I haven't made at least 15 posts yet :(

Crikey, that sounds like quite a headache.

I sympathise with you. I've had my car from new in June 2014 and the LED headlights have been faulty since delivery. After numerous attempts to diagnose and fix the problem failed I finally gave up trying. I'm trading mine in instead. Disappointed is an understatement but here's hoping the next ones better!

I feel your pain. I had a persistent problem with uneven and rapid tyre wear which took a dealer and SEAT CS's months to try, and fail to rectify. A local specialist sorted it within 30 mins.

I have lane assist and ACC on mine, a 2013 car. From new it's been faultless. hope you get yours sorted.
