Hi all,

I have a problem with my Leon, dash lights have come up and after having it checked it looks like a fault with the abs module.

I can get the old one taken out and sent of to be checked/repaired but can also get a brand new module sent from a friend in Poland for cheaper than the cost of repair.

Does anyone know if the new module would be a straight forward replacement or would it need to be coded to the car making the cost around the same?

Any info would be appreciated,

Thanks

What's the fault? You might be able to change just the mechanical side of the unit and retain the existing control module.

There are a few faults showing when scanned, it's been checked twice now.

Thought it may be a wiring issue but it wasnt, replaced one of the abs sensors and that didn't help, signals are going to the module but not coming out of it.

Its 200 quid to send it away and have it reset but I can buy a new one for around 75 quid, I dont want to do this if I still need to send the old one with the new one to be coded so need to know if it's a straight swap of parts

So what are the fault codes?

If you change the electronics module then yes it would need coding. If the fault(s) are such that only the mechanical side needs changing then the existing electronics module could be retained.

Ok, fault codes are:

P1649 - databus drivetrain: missing message from abs control module.

00625 - speed signal: no signal/communication

00446 - function limitation due to insufficient voltage: lower limit exceeded

Hope that clarifies

Presumably they're not all coming from the same module?

Are you sure the ABS unit is getting power. That seems to be what the fault codes are indicating.

If power, fuses and wiring issues have definitely been ruled out then the issue would seem to be in the electronics of the ABS unit. Even if your exiting unit could be repaired there's no guarantee the repair procedure wouldn't wipe the coding from the unit so it's best to assume any replacement or repair would require recoding and then it's a bonus if it doesn't need doing.
