Started the car this morning and Abs warning light came on and once engine turned off, was still buzzing. Had to disconnect the battery!

Had a look on eBay...there are many types of pump. Will try to get the exact one and get my mechanic to fit it . SEAT wanted £800! Otherwise I can send the unit for repair £250.

It's this a common problem?

Hello there,

unfortunately this is a fairly common problem with a lot of modern cars now,
Citroen, Peugeot, Renault and VAG tend to suffer the most.
I think the main symptoms are having the ABS light staying on, no communication from ABS ECU at all, or ABS fault code will not clear, and the ABS pump staying on when ignition is switched off.

On the early MK5 Ibiza's I think the most effected part numbers are:
6R0 907 379AB and 6R0 614 117P
2008 to 2012 with red dash lights.

I think your best bet like you say is to get your ABS ECU tested, as they are fairly common on the VAG vehicles to fail.

Hope this helps
Si

Thank you, Si! I brought a used abs pump with all the exact numbers as mine from eBay. Luckily my mechanic was able to replace the faulty one. Now working wonderful, £104 all in.

He said all the codes have been erased which was handy otherwise he would have to guess how to code it onto my car.

Maybe for the benefit for others, I think that your mechanic would have said that the coding of the original ABS controller could be read and so he could easily copy them across to the replacement one.
