Hi all,

new to the forum, picking up a Cupra R ST ABT in a few days, just checking insurance, do I need to declare the car as modified as it has the ABT kit?

cheers

Mike

Hi.
Unless the specific model of vehicle has been rated and given and insurance group in it's own right by the ABI then yes you would need to disclose this as a modification.

Dan.

Hi Dan, thanks for your reply, the car was spec’d with the ABT kit from order, does this have any affect?

The ABT piggyback ECU is / was a dealer fitted modification so it would need to be declared as such yes.

Hi.
No that wouldn't make a difference, if the specification hasn't been rated by the ABI and given it's own insurance group you would still need to disclose it.

Dan.

When I researched this, a specialist broker told me the ABT has it's own ABI number so it is rated by insurers. I couldn't find an insurer that didn't class it as a modified car though. Insurance comparison sites all seem to rate the car at 300 bhp, dig a bit deeper and most of those insurers decline to quote when told the car has around 350 bhp. That and the value being over £30k thins out reasonable quotes.
