Yes, use an allen key in the adjusters exactly the same as normal halogen headlights.

I would advise to do it with the beams showing on a brick wall to show you how much you have adjusted them. Also keep count of how many turns you have done on each headlight so you can go back to stock if you want. You're probably looking at 3 half turns on each (well that's what I ended up doing)

Is the stock settings so poor.
Mine is just flashing in front of the car, no distance at all.
Had also recently at service and the light adjustment is a part to control - the result is the same....

If I adjust it with an Allen key, don't the cars fitted with xenons have the self levelling adjusters? So they will revert back to the original setting.

Nope, the self adjusting is only to compensate for increased load on the front or rear axle, they actually don´t know where the "basic" setting is, that's for the mechanic (or you) to decide

But do you actually have to use vag com to set it, or can I just go out now and lift my bonnet and turn it?

It should be that you would adjust them and then use VCDS to set the new height as the "standard" height.

Should be a link on the VagCom / RossTech site for this!

Lift your bonnet and turn it, yes.

The factory base setting seems low on all of them (well all of the ones I've looked at)

The base setting is mechanical with an allen key. the sensor on the rear axel moves them up/down as required depending on suspension travel. No VCDS required, the system isn't THAT technical.
The same applies with left/right aim too. The sensor on the steering moves them left/right as required, the base settings are mechanical exactly the same as halogens.

Think about it, if you go for an MOT the MOT guy needs to be able to adjust them if need be in the normal way. You wouldn't expect him/her to have VCDS.

Yes, they have self leveling adjusters but no, this has nothing to do with the base setting

This says you should acknowledge the base setting as the guy above said!

OK, go for it and let us know if you think it's possible/worth doing. I may plug in tomorrow and try this.

I've adjusted mine 3 half turns up from stock on both headlights. I parked it with the beams exactly on a line on a brick wall, adjusted them up 3 half turns. Then switched them off and key out and on again and they homed in at my new setting every time. I have checked the auto leveling by sitting in the boot and it works as I would expect. If I do a scan I get no faults.

I also did this on my Exeo with factory xenons as I found they were low too.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead. I lowered mine on the week-end and need to set the lights too. 2012 LCR so I can assume the FL will still be the same to adjust? Gonna have a look on Friday night.

No messing with Vagcom, just use the headlight adjusters. The adjustment is very sensitive though, try it in half turns so you aren't blinding people.

Schweet! Thanks for that mate. Don't suppose someone could stick a pic here of which is the height adjuster screw or is that asking too much :p

Should really do it at a MOT tester or a place with correct facilities. While it is just a simple allen key adjustment, if its not at the legal required level you will fail your MOT. Also you can be blinding people if set to high.

Unless you have a car next to you which you know has correct alignment beaming onto a brick wall, you will never know what the correct height is.

Yeah, I should mention I checked mine at an MOT station. I adjusted them to the highest allowed setting on their machine.
