Hi, I have a 2006 (56) Alhambra and I want to put some HID's on. Can anyone give me some advice as to which kit I should go for? Local shop has offered me a 6k kit fitted for £100. Seen a few sharans and alhambra's with some on but as theres different kits, I'm not sure which to go for. Do I have to change the main full beam lights too? Also want some led sidelights too. Thanks for any advice.

dont bother!!!!!

new MOT laws come into force next Jan making HID's illegal

you need to have either a hidden bulb or projectors to cover the bulb i cant remember which at present,,

so you would keep getting pulled for having incorrect lights..

led side light bulbs are easy to get on ebay and £100 was a little steep to essentially fit a plug and play system

No I just think it might look good but obviously I was wrong to think I might get a bit of decent advice on a forum board. Apologies.

Pity you can't take a joke, but if you actually read some of the posts there is plenty of good advice & much cheaper alternatives that can look good & perform well without the problems of HID lights.

My reply was tongue in cheek my friend. If you could suggest an alternative to hid I would be very grateful.will hope to post some pics when I'm done . Thanks

No problem, have a look at your other post I looked at HID but was warned off some of the 'cheap' stuff is a bit dodgy high, voltages, poor ballasts exploding lamps & questions about legality.
In the end I used a pair of Osram Nightbreakers - they do a plus version now 90% more output than standard halogen, if you want the blue look they also do them but only 20% increased light, Philips also do a range of bulbs similar. The advantage is these are all legal EU approved standard wattage just much more light so no wiring changes, no dodgy high voltage ballasts or bulbs that can extinguish & take a while to relight - discharge lamps can have to cool before they relight, modern ones are much better not sure about the 'cheapies' good quality HID's can cost £400-600 for the complete package.
Have a look at this site http://www.powerbulbs.com/ shows what's available I haven't used them there are plenty others. Don't be tempted by the cheap eBay 'blue xenon' bulbs for a few pounds a pair you really would need a white stick on the front of the car with those! :D

I have an 04 Alhambra and bought a 'cheapy Chinese plug and play' kit from Ebay about £30.
always passed the MoT and no probs with any of the kit?!
I've also changed the lower fogs to Hid too. oh and the side lights to led.

I too use Nightbreaker+ headlamp bulbs and swear by them. I was thinking about some LED sidelight bulbs too but I've been concerned about the Canbus system.

Is there anything in an addition to a straight bulb swap that needs to be done to fit LED sidelight bulbs?

Thanks

You can get CAN BUS system specific type led sidelight bulbs.
The only other thing you'll need to change them is small hands to get in to the front wheel arches to get at the bulb holders! I normally end up with cut/scratched knuckles and my mouth washed out with soap lol!
