Just wondered who on here takes part in motor sport of any kind?
I know bill does, but does any1 else?
Im thinking of starting up karting, with a hope to later move into something like single seater kind of stuff (ASSUMING I'm any good.)
Its some what of a late start for me, but I'm now in a possition where it is possible.

After all, Bruno Senna started aged 19 and hes now racing in GP2, so theres no reason to believe i'm starting to late.

I just wondered what people do, and whats involved with their formula or what ever, am im undecided what direction I want to go to.

Thanks

Andy.

I used to...did 2 years in the Playstation 2 Ginetta Junior Championship. Its a championship specifically set up for kids aged between 14-16. Had to stop this year as im now too old but im spannering for a team in the juniors...earning some money to put forward to the SEAT Cupra fund

Anyone got a spare £50k?

although no longer but used to autograss every weekend - pic

won 3 different class championships for club and league 2 years running with 6 trophies and qualified for nationals 2000/2001 but couldn't go cos i was ill :(

can't be beaten for cheap fun and very competitive motorsport

nowadays just tag along to the dragstrip to help a rich nutter blow money going ridiculously fast in a straight line :)

I want to start something. Will get a project at some point and learn the ropes, sprinting seems a good idea.

read this - several times - and don't ever lose heart as the end by far outweighs the means [B)] and it's not as hard as it seems at first

Seen that book around, is it all about building a car from scratch (kitcar)??

I started clearing the garage out a month or so back and went looking for mk3 polos to abuse but got side tracked and brought the mk4.

sorry to sidetrack :)

not just build but MAKE - might need to learn to weld or get someone who can but if you can read something twice and have some patience and common sense it's doable for sure

page 1 starts with 4 metal tubes and its step by step from there

Sprinting/Hillclimbing are good, cheap ways to start.

Entry fees aren't too expensive and you can enter pretty much anything.

Harewood Hillclimb, where I Marshal, has anything from standard Nissan Micras to F1 engined single seaters running at the same meetings.

I did the driving school there this year and enjoyed it so I may look at entering a few events in the future. TDI power seems to be the way forward in motorsport:D

Hmmm sounds fun, mite have to buy it. Even if i dont ever build one im sure it has lots of useful guides in there. I just had a twisted thought about a a rwd bike engined polo

You in the proccess of building one then??

Apoligies from me for side tracking too ;)

i got given the original version years ago and use it as reference - interesting book too

few ideas in it for this which is the current (paper) project  until i can find a hiding place :p

sadly diesel isn't allowed in autograss yet :( would be good to i bet but the zx12R takes some catching at full pelt mind - wonder what it would go like on slicks :)

That reminds me of my RC buggie, bet they fly!

If i ever get into sprinting curborough's only down the road, must pop down when they have a meet to check it out. Seems the 1400 moddified class would be a good place to start, mk3 polo with a 1.4 16v under the bonnet sounds a good idea.

I would nt fancy diesel power deliver on a short track, the tyres wouldnt last too long with all the spinning when boost kicks in.

i've been thinking after the karting to go into hill climb, with a caterham or something.
Of course if work sponsour me, (they havent said no yet, which is a start) who knows.
BTW, if any1 has a "Spare"55k lying around, let me know.
Then i can join FPA (Formula Palmer Audi) **That would be my ideal race series to be in a think** (i can but dream) lol
