Good morning,

Ive had my 2010 1.4tsi 7speed dsg fr for just over 3 years now I love it to bits hence not getting a new car and even though its slightly modified I've not had any of the dreaded problems..... however ......

Now just before christmas I was driving back from portsmouth and the car disabled half the gears and it would not select neutral, eventually got it home however when I stopped the car it stuck into 1st gear and I could not start the car as it was in gear, strangley it was showing no error light, had to call the AA they plugged into the OBD2 and managed and in the special settings there was a force neutral selection! Lucky!

So got it to the garage, they suspected the mechatronics so started to take it out however when they opended it the guy said he saw the electrical connector was loose he pushed it back in and it clicked...... filled it back with oil, reset the error codes and everything and it drove fine.... at first as a marine engineer I was abit dubious however it has been fine since about 3-500miles so who am I to argue! It was however changing out of 1st gear almost immediatley (1.5-2k rpm) it never did that before

Now driving up to a course in south shields yeaterday it started to rain heavily and it was like it was slipping between gears and it was clunky and didnt select first gear it was going between N and 2nd I thought oh no! Not again anyway got on the a1m and 80miles in 7th gear it seemed to be okay again and as I slowed on the slip off it changed into 1st fine..... strange I think its important to mention avout 10miles into the a1m stretch it stopped throwing it down. Its fine this morning and behaving as should!

Has anyone had the same? I find it very odd! Im worried its the clutch pack but I thought it would be more of a gradual ware out not works then doesnt.....
Ps- anyone know how much a clutch pack is? Not labour just the actual pack?

NOW onto the engine.....
My oil consumption has gone up over the last week or so to the point that its annoying about 500-700ml per 1000miles im getting no smoke out the exh. And the preformance isnt affected at all, However I did get a tiny tiny little puff, hardley noticed, under full load from a standstill but I took the intake pipe off and it had a decent amount of oil in there, im thinking of a catch can setup but theres so many PCV lines so look vac some dont so not sure where to put them..... then keep an eye on it and I'll do a compression test .... I do have a large bore exhaust on however I do have the cat as I wasnt wanting to affect the turbo seals..... also there is oil around the edge off the cam seal (opposite end of the engine to the timing chain)

Any help at all appreciated

Sooooo I reconnected the factory PCV and air intake and the oil consumptiom seems to have got much better, I only had the line from between the intake and throttle body/bit where it decides whats going to the turbo/supercharger disconnected and to a vent tank, had been fine for a year or so.... strange.... anyway fingers crossed.

The gearbox is still behaving, just has me worried theres somthing going on, makes me nervous to drive it. I'll plug VCDS in when I get home this weekend as I think you can run a DSG test through it? Anyone done this?
Fingers crossed it just threw a strop and is fine

I know this is old but i had the same issue with the gear box. It would not select even gears. Seat had it for 3 weeks and they say it was flakes of metal on the magnetic pick ups within the gearbox.

In the end they replaced the gearbox
