Been to apr in Milton Keynes today and decided its got to be done!
Just wondered what people think of them? Advantages disadvantages, mpg, warranty (because I think you can switch between maps on the cruise stalk) and yeh..

Thanks ben

I think it's amazing. Completely different car when it's in 95/98 mode.

MPG is roughly the same, negligible increases if any. I can still get low 40's on the way to work without trying too hard. Warranty, voids pretty much anything engine related and I'll find out in 2 months how detectable they are  Depends on how proactive the dealership are really, my last car was remapped and had warranty work done on it with no questions asked. Then again Arnold *****s/Ford didn't really seem to care about anything I did do it

Advantages are that it brings the engine to life, just completely transforms it. So much more midrange it's unbelievable. It hits hard in third gear at 3500 and from 2500 in 5th it pulls very very nicely to well over 120  Just pottering about town it reminds me of a diesel, very easy to drive.

Disadvantages, last week I had the car still spinning into 4th when I fancied a shot on 98mode. Traction is a major issue at this time of year, for me It's simply not enjoyable or worth while driving it in anything but stock mode. It might exacerbate misfire issues, pretty much a hit or a miss though. I got them when I remapped but have cured them now by messing around with the plugs.

Obligatory Figures Map, this was done in 95mode:

Looks like a decent map but the torque does seem to trail off really quick, would of thought it would have been able to hold boost a little higher unless the turbo really is that small.

It's only a 1.4 at the end of the day, torque was never going to be its strong point even after a remap. Still 210ftlbs at 5k and 180 at 6k isn't that bad.

Stock mode it holds 11/12psi and falls to around 9psi at redline so there is a massive increase there. In 98mode it holds more boost for longer and is up nearer 18psi at redline.

Turbo is tiny

Thanks for the quick and in depth reply beazy! Definatly worth doing then?
Good that you can switch it between maps easy too, have had that misfire problem before a couple of times when I boot it when it's still retry cold, might get it booked in before it goes for the map and may be oil consumption test just to be on the safe side

Keith has my car at APR HQ Milton keynes. I'm sure he would take you out in mine.

FWIW my car on 95 ron mapping makes 240hp, on 98ron mapping its on 252hp. Massive difference between the two maps. Not dynod it with meth running yet but thats MUCH quicker again.

The stage 1 apr maps I've seen are running around 205-208hp with 250lbft torque on the 98ron maps.

As for the map switching its genius.

At mallory park in the soaking wet last month I started on the 98ron map which was rapid but struggled for traction which isn't surprising considering semi slick tyres and rain don't mix, so I switched to the lower powered 95ron map which had much better traction in those conditions .

Id never seen the turbo before so was unsure of its size, that would explain alot of it and the small displacement, still think there awesome cars tho.

Considering doing mine but warranty issue puts me off.

Even my Astra VXR was the same with a DS stage 2 map. Torque and BHP crossover was at 4750RPM approx. But peak figures were 296BHP and 360lb/ft of torque. No need for high torque up tehr ev range in a petrol anyways, as thats what HP is for taking over. Torque just gets you going ;) :)

Nice figures though on that print out, graph looks pretty good too, any readings on the AFM ??

I've been meaning to log them on a 3rd - 5th run but never really got round to it, tried to have a quick look at it once but figured my eyes were better served being on the road
