Arm Rest

Hey

Mrs has just bought an ex demo 11 plate Ibiza.

She wants an arm rest in it - any one with any experience of fitting one?

how much of the centre console trim has to come off to get to the threads in the floor?

Thanks :)

:search:

Don't mean to sound rude of course, but this has been asked lots of time and I've done a thread on what my arm rest looks like.
It literally goes into the rear cupholder.

Its not rude :)

I did search, but could not find a thread about actually fitting one.

I saw a thread with one actually fitted..

Im guessing it bolts to the floor pan somewhere, rather than simply wedging in the cup holder?

I was interested in how much of the actual centre console needed to be removed.

Yeah thats why I always lower mine now.

@Mark, Yeah I think theres plenty to show you the armrest but I'm not sure if anyone has said how to fit it. Could always ring up the dealers to ask?

But judging from mine I can't see any other bolts. Might be worth looking on one of the german seat forums. They have a lot of info on there, or maybe a VW one?

Had a quick search on google, can't do much whilst I'm at work but did read that the arm rest for the Golf MK5 and Audi is the same apparently.

So you should be able to find info somewhere.

Thanks for that compliment too :)

Morning

I fitted the arm rest to Becs car this morning - only about 45 mins work from start to finish.

Its a simply job really, and looks great.

Rough Instructions:

1 - Remove rear centre console trim where cup holder is (It has 3 clips, 1 at the rear, and two at the sides) I made 3 'tools' to release the 3 clips (they used to be an ice cream lid!)

2 - Remove gear stick 'leather' from around the gear stick, pull it up as high as it will go.

3 - Remove front section of centre console (where hazard switch is located). Remove red multi port connector from underneath, and manoeuvre it over the gear stick.

4 - Remove 5 screws and two plastic clips. 2 screws near front bulkhead, one passenger one driver. 2 in the centre just behind the gear stick, and 1 screw from the rear near where the cup holder used to be. The plastic clips are here too.

The centre console will give enough now to move up and out of the way slightly.

5 - Manoeuvre new arm rest bracket into place, and line up the holes in the floor that are probably hidden under the carpet slightly.

6 - Bolt bracket into floor using the 4 supplied allen key bolts.

7 - Manoeuvre centre console back into position, and refit screws and plastic bits.

8 - Re fit front section, dont forget to to re-connect the connector underneath, test hazard lights to confirm.

Now comes the drilling part!

9 - In the part that houses the rear cup holder, I drilled about 20 5mm holes around the bottom of the cup holder, then joined them all up. This removes the bottom of the cup holder to allow the new bracket to show though. Refit when done.

10 - Fit arm rest to new bracket using large allen key bolt supplied, only loosely fit.

11 - Fit new left hand trim, to arm rest using supplied screw.

12 - The arm rest has some play forward and backward to allow the trim to line up - Centre arm rest.

13 - Tighten large allen key bolt.

14 - Fit new right hand trim for arm rest.

Thats it.

In the words of swiss tony... Sit back, and admire your handywork.
