Boot handle broken - what am I missing?

So like many people, my boot handle has stopped working.
I can still open the boot using my key fob (thank you spring-loaded boot struts) but the handle doesn’t do anything.

I replaced the handle with a brand new unit. The old one was corroded and didn’t spring back into place. This didn’t fix it.
The boot latch was also corroded - the small motor inside was corroded. I replaced the whole unit with a second hand unit which I’m told was tested and working.

When it was working, the boot handle triggered a small motor or something that you could hear operating when you pressed the handle in. Now I don’t hear that at all. Presuming the secondhand latch is functional, what else am I missing that might be faulty? I’ve unplugged and replugged everything and I’ve got some electrical connector cleaner on the way. But failing that I can’t figure out what else it might be.
Thanks in advance.

Just a logical guess, the handle must be contacting a switch to start the latch release motor running - look for a switch associated with the handle being moved.

Edit:- remember that the remote opening function is also controlling that motor and doing that successfully by the sounds of things as was the original one.

Some Ibiza folk have been finding that the in-line wiring connector in the hatch also ends up getting messed up with water leaking in, try taking that apart or bridging it.

Also, have you discovered why parts are getting corroded and have you stopped that at source?

Another Edit:- have you worked out if the switch that gets controlled by the handle is actually built into the handle and not separate? Probably time to use a multimeter and sniff around for problems.
