Boot locking mechanism making a grinding noise

Apologies if this has already been discussed but a search didn’t turn up anything... when I opened the boot of my Leon hatchback this morning the mechanism made a loud grinding noise, sounded a bit like a learner driver trying to change gear in a manual!

The latch didn’t grip / lock properly when I shut the tailgate, as the boot open warning flashed and beeped every time I drove over a bump; thankfully only a few miles across town or it might’ve become very irksome.

So just wondering whether there’s a quick simple fix to this or do I need to visit local garage to get the lock mechanism replaced?

I wonder if some grit or something has worked it's way inside. If it's anything like older VAG group cards, it will be a solenoid that actuates a metal lever that operates the lock mechanism. Could be worth stripping it down and giving it a clean out.
