I am having this problem! am 11mm Allen key is required, i bought a 12mm and a is just too big. Socket fit allen key is best with a breaker bar and wd40. gonna have a go with new allen key at weekend. 13mm and 15mm spanner too, usual wie brush, screwdriver for leverage and scraping pad guides etc.

Thanks for the reply. You say an 11mm Allen Key, the Bolt looks like the tamper proof splined type? I've been searching round for an 11mm Allen socket anyway, but really struggling to find one up to the job. Does anyone know where to get such a beast, or the part No. for the proper VAG tool. Might halfords hold such a tool?

I looked at it and thought it was allen type fitting. will put a camera in to take a picture, difficult to see it. Any motor facctors should have them and get 3/4" drive fitting and a breaker bar.

That could well be true. will poke abnout it and get a picture to make sure, hard to see and dont put my head under a car without stands, use two wheels to go under chassis, in front of jack and one to the rear of where am working.

Went to halfords today, tried a few bits, seems to be the 14mm splined socket that fits. I bought a set today (don't have separate splined sockets), and going to give it a bash tomorrow if the weather permits. I'll post up on my success/findings.

Bondiblu, what size was the torx? The arent marked in mm, but given a T and number. I bought a T70 yesterday and it too big!

Hi there, as mentioned before, it's NOT a torx bit, it is defo a 1/2" drive, 14mm splined bit available from Halfords, similar to the one in the picture, but halfords brand. I don't have them with me, so can't post an exact picture. They are labeled "splined bits" on the packaging.

This is not for the faint hearted, and I wouldn't do them again. Those carrier bolts are really really tight, and the space is too limited to get at them. The suspension gets in the way. I had to get a mate in the "know" to help. And still we struggled for hours. I've always done my own, but these were a nightmare. Next time, I'll take it in to be done.

Bit early to tell, I've only done about 2 miles on them. I think they need to settle in, but there does seem to be an improvement.

I only changed my pads and seems better, two weeks on them. Painted calipers and hubs on front, looks much better. will do rears at some stage. Also have a picture of the bolt to undo on rears as couldn't see it really. will stick it up tomorrow at some stage.

Picture of rear carrier bolts and front calipers painted, not finished, will sand and recoat then clear coat when have more time.
