Brief rattle noise on acceleration

Hi guys

Hope you are all safe and well.

Over the last several weeks, when I start off and when initially accelerating in gears 1-3 I get an odd little rattle sound from drivers side front.
I was assuming this could be a bit of lose exhaust but just wanted to check with you?

It is very brief, lasts only a few seconds, is not noticed when cruising along or changing down.
Car is running well enough.
Noise is a kind of rattle or grind, loud enough to notice but not horrendously loud.

Anything to be concerned about?

I think i've got something very similar and not having the time to get under and look around, so will be interested in others thoughts on this as well.

Either your cat is knackered or a heat shield is loose, it's probably a certain resonance that's causing the rattle.

Just to add, I took her for a spin this morning and not until she had part warmed up did the noise start.
Wouldn't be the water pump would it?

Have to say my bet would be a lose bit of tin such as found around the exhaust system.

Not sure why but I can't slide under for a look anymore, think my drive has risen

If the water pump was in such a state it was rattling I think you'd be having overheating issues by now.

Hi guys, have just discovered what this is cat has become rattly, garage say they want £420 fully fitted
Did say I don't have to panic about it but would need doing before next MOT in March 2016.
Just been looking on line and seems you can buy them for as little as £70.

Can anyone help me ID the exact part number and also comment on buying one myself and asking the gauge to fit it ir do I really need to pay out the £420?

On the LCR, which I know you don't drive, the cat bolts straight in so its really straight forward, im not sure about your vehicle, do you know if it bolts in or if its welded in place? Also, if the cat is just rattling and its not having an effect on the emissions if you can live with the rattle you wouldn't need to change it, unless its about to fall off! £420 is probably about right for parts and labour, but if you can save some money then do it! I cant help with part numbers, god knows what you would end up with!

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Mine does bolt on, two pipes at the engine down to one, cat not a lot bigger than a milk bottle and then single pipe to rest of exhaust.
Lambda seems happy, and MOT scan says emissions are fine.

JKM will fit me one for £259.44 non gen and Kate explained about that, 1 year warranty or 10, 000 miles and compared to a gen cat which might easily give me 10 years.
She also said that non gens take longer to work properly so when being MOT they would have to remember that and get it up to temp. A gen cat costs £700 plus fitting and VAT I have asked my local garage who said £420 for details on that cat, if its a gen one then I'll go with them but I very much doubt it lol The noise is not too bad just now, so I'll put up and save up. JKM have looked after me for many years now so I am likely to go to them, trouble is they are so far away from home lol.

Still more worried about my whining noise that comes from the lower right engine block, but no one seems worried about it not even JKM!

Have you thought about a race cat? At least you get some benefit from it, should last longer than a spurious original and hopefully cost less than a genuine one

Why I said race cat I have no idea what I meant was a hi flow/sports cat, £450~ gets you a miltek hi flow cat, might be able to pick one up cheaper on the bay of E, best of both worlds and no messing about during mot time

With regards your enquiry I am assuming you have the naturally aspirated 1.8 model and not the turbo equipped variant.

If this is the case we unfortunately do not manufacture any catalyst equipped downpipes etc for that model variant.
