Had mine changed this morning at Midland VW and got talking to Jody (the main man). He was saying that he gets a lot of people coming to have these changed but they don't wear THAT much resulting in changing!

He mentioned that the earlier A4 tfsi's were terrible but from 06 onwards they have been fine on standard fuel pumps.

He said that mine had hardly worn (64k) and he didnt think it had been changed.

For the sake of £20 odd quid I'd treat it as a consumable though. Not that much to add to the cost of a yearly service or even leave it every two. I used to buy a new splitter for the LCR every year and that's just cosmetic. I'd rather spend it out than worry about the damage it can cause, especially on a modified car.

My understanding is that if it's worn through the coating it needs to be replaced; I did mine at 24k, the coating was worn through, but no obvious wear to the metal.

For the cost of the part and if you're doing the work yourself it's inexpensive, so it's better to be safe than sorry!

Adam/Mark; do you have your old follower? I'd be interested to see it's condition after 60k+ if you could post a picture.

From my cambelt question thread, as I understand it, the cam follower runs the fuel pump on TFSI engines.
