Camskills or MyTyres?

Hi

Just about to order some tyres but wanted to check about suppliers first.

I know a lot of people on here have used Camskill but what about MyTyres?

Will be buying 2 Vredestein Sessantas & Camskill charge £171.58 delivered. MyTyres charge £161.00 delivered. Tried Camskill 'Price Buster' but came back saying couldn't match.

Would use MyTyres but just seen some dodgy reviews.

What do you guys think?

Very few Vredestein suppliers in UK.

My normal fitter tried a few people & could get them but only at £130 each!!

I ordered my winter tyres (pre-fitted to black steel wheels) from mytyres.co.uk and everything went smoothly. They took a while to come back to me when I sent them a query and I had to wait for shipping (on a ship!) from Germany, which took a good while, but couldn't really complain at all.

When I Googled MyTyres reviews most of them were quite poor. Late delivery, wrong tyres, people cancelling orders & no refunds etc. Also had very poor customer service feedback.

Anybody else with experience of either? I really want to order today so can get them fitted next week.

Cheers

I've bought loads from MyTyres going back 5years and never had a problem.

I've always left at least a week delivery time though and had them delivered to my work. They come direct from Germany.

Thanks for the replys.

I didn't realise MyTyres were in Germany so went with Camskill for the sake of £10. The Great British Pound needs all the support it can get right now!!

Thanks again guys.

Hi

Tyres turned up from Camskills today after ordering late Friday pm. Good service!

Have one query with them though if anyone can help.

I understand, from other forums, that every tyre has a 'birthday' date on them showing when they were made. Normally shown as 4 digit number eg 2509 = Wk 25 2009. This is so can see how long they have been on shelf etc.

I bought 2 tyres & sure I saw on them 0903a & 0903b which should mean were made in 2003. This seems long time ago & wonder if rubber would start to breakdown?

If anyone else has recently got any Vredestein Sessantas from Camskill or anywhere else, can you check yours & see what they say?

If anyone got opinions about shelf life for rubber would be pleased to hear them before I get these fitted.

Cheers

that or it's Wk 03 2009.....

I'm sure on the Goodyears I'm replacing says something like 2507 so Wk 25 2007.

Will need to double check tomorrow as not to happy about paying over £170 for 2 tyres that are 7 years old!

I dont think those tyres even existed 7 years ago tbh.

I've recently got some from camskill. I can go check and see what mine say on them if you want?

Mine both say 0607a, but also 0510 :|

Thanks for that. Did you buy the 0510's recently & when did you get the others? Might confirm if we're looking at the right thing.
Think you're right though. I thought they were newer than that.

I'll have to check again tomorrow to make sure I haven't misread.

What size did you order? I'm on 245/45/17.

Cheers

I bought them in February, so it's possible they could have been brand new out of the factory if it's 5th week of 2010.

They are standard 225/40/18. Were about the same price as yours (free fitting from a friend at kwikfit though :D)

From the Vredestein website:

The sidewall of the tyre carries a code from which the production date can be derived.
Since 01-01-2000 the production date is made up of 4 numerals,
for instance DOT 9D YE 2406
2406= Production date à 24= 24th week 06= 2006 (year)

From 01-01-1990 to 31-12-1999 these were 3 numerals with a triangle, for instance 458◄ = 45th week of 1998. If there is no triangle behind the three numerals, the tyres have been produced for the year 1990.

Tyre Age - Vredestein Sessanta

From the Vredestein website:

Thanks for the info.

In that case, looks like my tyres were made in 2003. Do you think they will still be OK as will probably on the car for another 2 years?

Not sure what the shelf life is for tyres & when would start to go off.

Cheers

Are you sure you're not looking at the wrong number on the tyre? You mentioned the letters a and b after the numerals, but the Vredestein FAQ doesn't mention letters as suffixes, only the little triangle.

Seems very odd that the tyres will have been stored for so long...

I actually took a picture this morning which I can post up this evening. On the tyre, this number is printed directly in front of the word 'DOT'. Not sure if this helps?

Really want to clear this up as quick as poss so can get them fitted or speak to Camskill if any issues about the age.

I have MOT in 2 weeks & need to be on by then.

Thanks for replys so far.
