Car Alarms

Could someone recommend a decent car alarm for my ibiza! been meaning to get one for a few years now. Was once quoted about £500 at a local electrical place for a "top of the range" alarm system, with mircowave sensors, automatic text sent to ya etc etc

back then i thought cool. but now i'm just after a basic alarm really! Tried searching ebay, and seems like they all come with remote start and ****! that would be good, but don't really need it TBH!

Anyway, just after a simple alarm system, maybe with microwave sensors (i'll be fitting myself BTW)

What would you recommend? How much? And where from?

Cheers all

I don't think that it will be Thatcham approved if you fit it yourself. It has to be done by an approved installer.

We had a Toad Ai606 fitted to one of the works vans for £245 a while ago.

Yeh you want a Thatcham cat 1 alarm/immobiliser.

Toad are a very good company and id rate them very high. Ive got a Clifford Concept 650 on mine, not by choice (was on it when i bought it) i cant wait to get rid of it but got more important things to buy for the car than a new alarm.

Clifford have been bankrupt loads of times thats why i dont like them

why can't you fit yourself? thought you'd just get a certificate with it

:)doh: just thought! anyone could get a certificate and then not fit it :D)

plus certificate needs to be franked/stamped/signed by a qualified installer

that way then know its fitted and done properly

Have you tried ebay for mobile fitters?

There are a couple up here that will come to your place of work and offer very good prices for a Cat 1 alarm and fitting included.

Toad
Clifford
Gemini

In that order too :)

Had a Clifford on my old Pug, never played up, never went off when it wasnt supposed to (we have a double decker bus go past the house every 15mins so was important the sensors could distinguish between traffic and thieves)

Toad offer a very good alarm for cheaper than paying for the brand 'Clifford'. With a TOAD you should be able to get alot more addons for cheaper than a std Clifford.

I think you can ask them if there a approved installer.

They should have some paperwork to say they are trained up etc, other than that search their feedback and see if anyone has complained.

ive got the viper one - the key fob itself vibrates and beeps if alarm is activated - although only works if your within certain distance (not sure how far) but does have a fairly good range -

also tells you if the boot/bonnet is opened when alarm triggers -

Can add auto start/window closure if need be - cat 1

I payed £300 -

might get the auto start of i still have car next winter

Complete tosh... Clifford make the best alarms of any of the companies selling them. Almost every case of a Clifford causing problems is down to bad installation. I think in the 5 or 6 I've had over the years I've had 2 problems and one of them was me being a bit ham fisted with a remote changing the battery

In fact the C650 is the best of all the Cliffords made if it is installed properly. I have one myself.

Oh and Clifford have never gone bankrupt, the company that owned Clifford went down the pan and they were bought by Directed Electronics due to it being a multi-million dollar making company.
