Car Stereo + HDD

Hello I have a query I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a 03 LC with the standard head unit and cd multi changer.
What i would like to do is run a external hard drive with music on it and play it through the standard head unit with some sort of adaptor, if this possible?

You need some means of converting the music files (MP3's at a guess) into audio. An MP3 player with a USB connection would do fine, or perhaps a mini PC. Or you can bin your standard head unit and replace it with one that has built in MP3 capability.

My other half has a cheap Aldi one that has a USB port on the front, that will do what you're after although the quality is severely lacking!!

Cheers for the reply slimy, i did thinking about building a small pc to store in the glove box and run a linux os but i may need to research this a bit further.
Id really like to keep the std head unit and have it play through that. Ive seen ipod connectors to play the ipod through the multichanger when you choose cd 6
