Well, I thought I best start a new thread to keep you all updated on the car. It certainly won't be as good as Maz's thread but I'll try
Bit of a story of how I finally got the car.
I was on the lookout for something to replace my E60 BMW, nothing in particular, just visiting the normal forums looking for inspiration when I happened upon jonjay's for sale thread. After reading his thread about 3 times, contacting my insurance company (to make sure the Mrs could be added to the policy) and ensuring I had the funds in place I gave Maz 'the call' but it was too late. He had already done a deal on his awesome 335d. My intention was to get the R32 steering wheel thrown in at asking price. To say I was gutted is an understatement. Standard cars of this calibre are hard to find, never mind exceptionally well modified examples.
After a few days I tracked the car down to an auction centre in Enfield so I decided to visit my sister(lives in Stanstead) coincidently on the same day as the auction![Cool [B)] [B)]](/forums/styles/seatcupra/oldforumsmileys/shades.gif)
The car looked better in person than any of the pictures and after a thorough check the car was as Maz left it. I ended up paying a similar figure to what Maz had it advertised for but minus a few bits. (RARB, rear brace, posh wheels, spacers). I left the BM with my sister and enjoyed the 3.5 hour journey back up north. I was amazed with the handling, even without the rear anti roll bar. The diff is amazing, it really does drag you round then fire you out of those corners. I think it will take me a good 6 months to get fully used to the car and be able to use it properly. I've got a few plans for the car but nothing too serious. I think the car is near perfect as is.
Both the interior and exterior are in exceptional condition, the car could pass as a 6 month old example and is a real credit to Maz's dedication. i'll take some updated pictures when I get time
Once the Mrs found out though, the party stopped
We have 2 cars but we use each others as/when needed. She has a Yaris T-Sport soon to be replaced with an MX-5.
I'm always talking about getting a new car, latest was a E91 330d manual estate but I couldn't justify swapping the 5 series for a 3. I told the other half I had found a suitable car for us and was met with the usual "ok love, get what you want". Obviously, this didn't mean what I thought it meant. Her initial response when she saw the Leon was "WTF is that, I ain't driving that. Look at it, its a proper man's car"
Anyway, she's had a gob on all week. She assumed I was off buying a 3/5 series estate. She must be concerned about the amount of shopping she can get in the boot
Our choices are either both cars stay(BMW & Leon) both cars go and we get a 530d/330d touring or we just keep the BMW for now. I really need a car where the rear seats fold down, as big as the 5 series is, the lack of rear folding seats really restricts it carrying capacity (Mountain bikes etc)
I'll have to see how things pan out this week but I'm really hoping she will warm to the Leon.
