Well, I thought I best start a new thread to keep you all updated on the car. It certainly won't be as good as Maz's thread but I'll try:)

Bit of a story of how I finally got the car.
I was on the lookout for something to replace my E60 BMW, nothing in particular, just visiting the normal forums looking for inspiration when I happened upon jonjay's for sale thread. After reading his thread about 3 times, contacting my insurance company (to make sure the Mrs could be added to the policy) and ensuring I had the funds in place I gave Maz 'the call' but it was too late. He had already done a deal on his awesome 335d. My intention was to get the R32 steering wheel thrown in at asking price. To say I was gutted is an understatement. Standard cars of this calibre are hard to find, never mind exceptionally well modified examples.
After a few days I tracked the car down to an auction centre in Enfield so I decided to visit my sister(lives in Stanstead) coincidently on the same day as the auction[B)]

The car looked better in person than any of the pictures and after a thorough check the car was as Maz left it. I ended up paying a similar figure to what Maz had it advertised for but minus a few bits. (RARB, rear brace, posh wheels, spacers). I left the BM with my sister and enjoyed the 3.5 hour journey back up north. I was amazed with the handling, even without the rear anti roll bar. The diff is amazing, it really does drag you round then fire you out of those corners. I think it will take me a good 6 months to get fully used to the car and be able to use it properly. I've got a few plans for the car but nothing too serious. I think the car is near perfect as is.

Both the interior and exterior are in exceptional condition, the car could pass as a 6 month old example and is a real credit to Maz's dedication. i'll take some updated pictures when I get time

Once the Mrs found out though, the party stopped:censored:
We have 2 cars but we use each others as/when needed. She has a Yaris T-Sport soon to be replaced with an MX-5.

I'm always talking about getting a new car, latest was a E91 330d manual estate but I couldn't justify swapping the 5 series for a 3. I told the other half I had found a suitable car for us and was met with the usual "ok love, get what you want". Obviously, this didn't mean what I thought it meant. Her initial response when she saw the Leon was "WTF is that, I ain't driving that. Look at it, its a proper man's car"

Anyway, she's had a gob on all week. She assumed I was off buying a 3/5 series estate. She must be concerned about the amount of shopping she can get in the boot:think:

Our choices are either both cars stay(BMW & Leon) both cars go and we get a 530d/330d touring or we just keep the BMW for now. I really need a car where the rear seats fold down, as big as the 5 series is, the lack of rear folding seats really restricts it carrying capacity (Mountain bikes etc)

I'll have to see how things pan out this week but I'm really hoping she will warm to the Leon.

Well done on tracking her down mate, without dout you have got possible THE best Leon TDi on the road.
Shame the Mrs has thrown a spanner in the works after the effort you put in getting the car.

P.S sorry nicking all the bit's but it had to be done ;)

Welcome Cav. Hope The car gives you as much enjoyment as it has me in the past. Also thanks for the kind words.

As for Mrs, she will get over the car and show her that the rear seats fold down! :)

D.K - I don't blame you for taking those bits, I would have too!

I think you may be right about it being one of the best tdi Leon's, plus each time I drive it, it gets better. I'm looking forward to getting the rear anti roll bar fitted and a new set of tyres to get the most out of the car again.
Pic's will soon follow, nothing fancy just whatever the iphone can muster up.

Maz, it was great to meet you and your friend (cant remember his name!) at the weekend. Both BM's looked stunning on the drive and I can't believe how much nicer the interior of your 3 series is compared to my E60.
The Mrs took the car to work yesterday and she is still not impressed with it, I think it's too much of a drivers car for her to appreciate, especially with the Quaife diff in there. At least were on speaking terms now anyway:rolleyes: She really wants the BMW to stay so were going to look at 3 series estates at some point this week, I just hope the price of them is enough to put her off them:cry: I'm still going to carry on with my plans with the car for now anyway in the hope that she see's the light.

Intended mods are:

Mocal oil cooler
Rear wheel spacers
Rear Anti Roll Bar
New tyres (see below)

And that's the lot, it's near on perfect anyway.

Tyres

I cant decide if I should stick with the tried and tested Toyo T1-R's or go for the new Goodyear Asymmetric 2's? I'll do some research and post up once I have them fitted if I get chance.

Eibach 25mm rear anti roll bar on the way:funk:

It's slowly getting back to it's epic former glory!

After a bit of research I've decided that a set of Goodyear asymmetric 2's will be the next purchase for the car once I've convinced the other half it's staying.
Were off to look at 330d touring's at the weekend so hopefully I'll know if the Leon's staying or going:headhurt:
I don't thin it helped seeing Maz's 335d over the weekend, it relit my love the BMW's too:redface:

congrats with getting the car, cav!
Im going to follow your thread as well, as long as you dont part with the car ofc. Im not liking what I hear you saying above tho. Prpffrpfft. Let her get n estate if she wants, but keep the leon! ;)

There we go, finally some pic's. It really is in stunning condition and it gets plenty of comments. It even averaged 57mpg on my work commute with 4 blokes on board!

Still not sure which car were keeping yet:cry:
We've talked about selling the Leon, getting some winter boots for the BM and getting a mx5 or 200sx so I can satisfy my craving to get some track time in.

Here's some of the detailing products I'll be using over the coming months, just need a polisher now as my last one packed in and to find out what product Maz used on the windows as the water just flows off it.

And here she is all cosy in her new home:)
Yes, I know the garage needs a good clean and a coat of paint on the floor:rolleyes:

Well, the decision has been made. The Leon will be going and the BM will be getting a remap and some winter boots. The Mrs helped make the decision by showing me her great parking skills and refurbishing the BM's alloys against the kerb:censored:We looked at a 08 330d M Sport estate which will be the car that replaces the E60 in 6(ish) months time (need to get saving first)

I think she would give me a heart attack using the Leon day to day. That must have been the shortest car ownership ever!

Talking to her on the way back it turned out I had been a bit selfish in buying the car in the first place, buying with your heart is not recommended if your in a long term relationship as I found out today. I was really looking forward to getting the Goodyear Asymmetric 2's fitted and seeing what the car was capable of as it handles remarkably well on the average tyres its wearing now. Just cant believe how docile and lazy the BM feels after driving the Leon.

Dare I say, live and learn? Probably not as I'll no doubt be in this position again in 6 months time:doh:

so you decided to part with it allready?

Not me:cry:

My Mrs won't drive it, she is scared of it and doesn't like the attention it brings:doh:

I think I was dreaming(being selfish) in thinking it would be suitable for us both to use instead of the BM.
Live and learn eh:doh::doh:

edit: Just realised your from Norway, I have family in Holmestrand and Oslo. I was there last March and the sea was still frozen!

I'm not one for hiding anything, I ended up paying £7350 for it and I've spent a few hundred on bits and bobs (RARB etc). Still not a bad price all things considered .

I have advertised it on Pistonheads for £7k. Already had an email about it too. I'll be using it until Tuesday/Wednesday this week then cleaning it and putting it in the garage. Out of sight - out of mind for the Mrs! Then, I might just get some peace.

If I had the funds, it would be staying alongside the BM but winter tyres are looking about £800 for the BM then it needs new summer tyres too. Plus I might be tempted by a remap to keep me interested in it if it has to stay.
I think the BM does its thing so well, I tend not to appreciate it as much as I should if that makes sense.
