I want to change to 18s as the rides quite hard on the bumpy country roads where I live, been looking but being quite new to modifying cars I want to know what the difference will be between 18”x8.5” wheels and 18x”8” wheels

I know it’s wider but I’m asking what difference that will make
That's just what a BOT would say :ROFLMAO:

Standard alloys are 7.5"x18 ET45 or ET51 or 8"x19 ET50. (The lower the ET the more they stick out, the higher the ET the more inset they are)
When picking aftermarket wheels - you also need to consider the ET (wheel offset).
Picking a 8"x18 - and matching the ET of your 19's would be guaranteed to fit - going outside this could be a risk of rubbing.
Probably ok to push the ET 5 or 10mm to give it a wider stance.

Don't pick a "sporty" tyre if you need comfort. Pick a Touring tyre instead.

You can safely assume that almost all Ultra High Performance tyres have sturdy sidewalls. This results in less deforming of the tyre (precise steering feeling etc), but will not be focused on being comfortable.

If you do want a sporty tyre, the Pilot Sport 4&5 are some of the nicest riding ones.

Much closer to the daily, rather than sporty, end of the spectrum than a lot of their competitors.
