It's just an information message. It means that deadlocking is enabled on your car and when you lock your car it will be deadlocked meaning that none of the interior handles can then be used to open the car. So if a thief smashes a window he won't be able to just reach in and open the door.
Just to add, you can temporarily disable the deadlocks by pressing twice on the remote button when locking the car. Doing this also temporarily disables the interior movement sensors. Turning the key in the driver door lock twice achieves the same thing.
And while we're on the subject of remotes and locking, if you didn't already know, you can also do the following:-
Press and hold the lock button and all the windows will close if they're open. And if you have electric folding mirrors, they will also fold up at the same time.
Press and hold the unlock button and all the windows will open. Note that electric folding mirrors won't unfold when you do this - they will only unfold again when you turn on the ignition.
With the car locked, press the boot unlock button and it disarms the alarm and releases just the boot lock (all doors remain locked). The alarm will automatically arm itself and the boot will re-lock as soon as you've closed it again. If you ever use this feature, be careful not to inadvertently leave your keys in the boot or you'll be screwed!
If you unlock the car but then don't open any door within 30 seconds, the car will automatically re-lock itself and re-arm the alarm. This is a security feature in case you accidentally press the unlock button on the remote without realising.
Sounds like she may have inadvertently pressed the button on the remote when leaning over to the glovebox thus locking the car and arming the alarm while she was in it. The interior movement sensors would have then detected her moving around inside the car and triggered the alarm.

I agree that it's a bit of an odd message. The fact is says to "check" and "owners manual" suggests there is a fault you need to look up in your manual. All that really means is for you to look in the owners manual if you want a full description of the deadlock feature. It would be far less confusing and more meaningful if it said something like "Deadlock Activate" instead.
Pretty sure I have the deadlocks as a double tap gives that tell tale noise. Never felt the need to lock myself in but in the spirit of helping out I will do this..
Right. Me sat in the back, double tap on the key and you can open from the inside.
Single tap activates deadlocks and I cannot open the doors from the inside.
My missus had gone inside with the fob and I cannot get out the car.
