Clutch is slipping - help!

2 months after my Celtic remap my clutch has started slipping in 4th, 5th and 6th (higher revs) but only when I really put my foot down..

I've read through a number of posts here regarding Celtic, clutches and general remaps (should have done a bit more of that before the remap!) but I'm still a bit in the dark.. so could do with a bit of advice, please!

1 - (maybe a stupid one) Will the clutch slip get worse and lead to damage if i drive more carefully? (i'm considering removing the remap - will the problem go away or still require a new clutch?)
2 - presuming that i need a clutch upgrade, what's best and how much are they? I don't want to pay a fortune if possible..
3 - Would it be an idea to get the car remaped again? I know this sounds like a stupid question but my thoughts were that if it was done "properly" then i would reduce the risk of future damage... If so, who would be best to speak to about this?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated....

If you drive more carefully then the clutch will last longer but that sort of defeats the whole point of having the car remapped. You might be able to go back to Celtic to have the torque lowered which will make the clutch last longer but personally i believe that if the clutch has been slipping for a while then the damage is done or even if there isn`t any damage i would still get a new uprated clutch fitted. Fitting a clutch will cost about £200 and any garage should be able to change the clutch as it`s just an uprated clutch of the same design so a simple parts out and parts in job. Cheapest way to uprate a clutch is to just renew the drive disc which costs about £185+vat, better still and what most people do is replace the drive disc and pressure plate. CCode boasts that they HAVE the smoothest remap but weather you find £650 a good way to find out  get that clutch uprated u wont regret it as going back to standard power i could imagine would suck!

how many miles are on the standard clutch?

The car has done 31200 miles in total but less than 2500 since the upgrade!!

Devonmikeyboy - thanks mate, will look into getting the pressure plate etc done - can you reccomend any decent makes models etc?

If your serious about getting a clutch now would be a good time as there is a group buy going on this site with JBS at the moment and on Briskoda there is a group buy though Impossible performance. Have a quick search mate and you should save yourself a fair bit if your quick. Sashs and Helix are the two best makes of clutches with Sashs beeing cheaper but holds less torque. As long as you stay with an organic drive disc you cannot go wrong with either company.

I've only got the uprated drive disc, and the clutch has never slipped, while still feeling 90% OEM. If you're going for 230BHP+ then consider replacing both discs, or possibly the full clutch.

I got just the allards uprated friction disc the same as Tim has - i found it a bit sharp at first but it's bedded in nicely now.

I also ended up having to replace the Dual Mass Flywheel as mine was shot too - whether the DMF or the friction disc was causing the slip is a moot point.

As above, if a remap is ALL you'll do then this should be fine, if you're planning more engine work now or in the future OR you have the spare cash to blow on a complete new performance clutch for peace of mind then i'd do that!

I only have a remap & air filter as engine mods, but went with the JBS sachs clutch kit group buy - you wont find it cheaper anywhere at the minute (or ever will for the foreseeable future !!)

Power delivery now is superb, OEM feel & pulls like a train :D

i had a celtic remap on my ibiza sport. It started slipping the next day..

i decided to fork out and upgrade to a much stronger clutch. When they did the upgrade, they looked at the old clutch and told me it was in good condition and that it wouldn't have started slipping without the remap.

I was pretty annoyed at having to pay £700 quid for a clutch, it did the job well but it was never easy to drive afterwards and i don't think i would have bothered doing the remap if i'd had known it would cost me nearly a grand.

What clutch did you have?

Ive driven a tdi with an uprated sachs clutch and it felt the same as the standard one...

Standing starts kill clutches and to add to that some remap tuners deliberately design in a kick in the power delivery to give the illusion of a massive gain in performance. The result of this is premature Clucth wear.

I am not saying that Celtic have done this at all...I am simply saying that this is what some companies do. I would examine your driving style though. If you have been doing a lot of standing starts off the lights taking on other cars (and only you yourself will know the truth!) the this would explain why your clutch has deteriorated faster. Clutch slip will not get better once it starts as the plate surfaces have either been worn away or the material has been polished and hardened by the temps from standing starts.

Any good custom remap tuner will be able to give you a smooth power and torque graph if you want it. You just have to make sure you ask.
