Clutch slip 1st gear

Noticed the other day that the clutch seems to be slipping in first gear from 2000rpm even at half throttle sometimes.
Had a search on the forum and some threads said to test by flooring it at low revs in high gears. No slip doing this or in any other gear just seems to be first. Dont think it is the wheels spinning as the traction control light dusnt come on.
How big of a problem is this??
The car is a cupra tdi with 12000 miles. could i get a clutch on warrenty?

Doubt it would be clutch slip if flooring it at low revs in third doesn't show it up.

Is it when you're accelerating quickly or just slowly accelerating? Can't say i stay in first long enough to notice anything.

I know this is a silly question, but is the traction control turned on?

hi mate,

mine(150 tdi cupra) has been doing the same over the past few days and to me its just spinning up as turbo kicks in around 2000ish rpm, like you said even at part throttle and the traction light dont come on,if your clutch was on its way or gone you would find it in 5th ect at low revs and putting your foot down i had an old escort and the clutch went on that but as said more in 4th 5th ect, warranty is a bit touch and go really doubt you would as i work in a motorcycle shop and i do warrantys ect and manufactors see it as wear and tear.

happens when if i put my foot down. have been doing it intentional to try and work it out although it did happen at a round about when i pulled out. The traction control is on as the light is on constant when it is off. Could it be a weather/temperature related thing? Not sure when mine started doing it i think it was ok before christmas though.

I really can't believe that's clutch slip, if it doesn't happen in higher gears.

It has to be wheelspin on the cold/greasy/icy tarmac we've got at the moment, because there's sod all grip.

is there any reason the traction control light wouldnt come on? its not clutch slip iv tested again today with 4 people in the car at higher gears and no problems.

If it's either clutch slip or wheelspin, you'll notice your speedo reading increase when it happens, but without a corresponding change in your engine RPM.

Next time it happens, have a look at your dials.

What is it that makes you think there is slip or wheelspin - some kind of noise ?

when i put my foot down in first sometimes at half throttle the revs shoot up and the speedo dusnt really move much. No particular noises of wheel spin. Not sure if clutch slip has a noise.

Hahaha
this thread makes me chuckle :D
Get someone to stand next to your car whilst it does it and maybe they will be able to confirm you are infact rotating the wheels with very little traction so are not going forwards as fast as you think you should be [B)]

I think i have accepted it was wheel spin. Floored it again in 1st tonight with the windows down to listen for spinning and it span. traction control light didnt come on until i was about to change to second. Must have just been very slick roads the other night to have span with so little noise.
