Confused and slightly concerned.

Hey guys,

Recently installed my forge TIP Hose kit, DV Relocation kit and new charge pipe..

http://img98.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1253cx6.jpg

Although my concern is that when i floor it, then suddely take my foot off *very* sharpish i get chatter.. its only for a split second but it is there (probably 2-3 chatters at most). When driving *normally* it doesnt happen (smoother gear changes and letting the change go steadily).

Could this be because of moving the dump valve and now its not acting quick enough to release the boost - i.e. going back through the turbo? I know this isnt a good thing. :headhurt: and if this is the cause, then im not sure how to resolve it other than drive it sensible..

Also, on my daily drive to work and back i would manage 23-25mpg at best (i have a heavy foot). Giving it a spirited drive today (first day back at work after installing all the pipes) i manage 29mpg!! and thats with flooring it every opportunity i get (keep in mind little traffic with the kids off school!)... very confused... Obviously im not complaining :) but i am curious what could be causing this..

Any thoughts/opinions/advice appreciated.

Kind of the same question although my chatter is *only* when releasing the throttle very sharply, not all the time.

Also to add, the noise was NOT THERE before installing all of this, NEVER heard any chatter of any sort (although the dump valve was a lot louder for some reason).

Maybe the new TIP allows better air-flow into the compressor (some say 65 to 70% more than the OEM design) and hence helps the turbo achieve higher boost levels than previously.

This often gives an improvement in MPG, as I noticed mine gave slightly better MPG after I had it remapped and ran at higher boost. Also if you have relocated your dv you may experience lower charge air temps, and higher air density as a result of this. This will help to give a more efficient combustion process and hence better MPG.
The new charge pipe may also be helping the temp & air flow, hence efficiency.

I'm no expert though in these matters, so perhaps somebody else can explain it better ore more correctly!

I also plan to do these mods in the future, and as well as a few extra hp and Nm I'm hoping for a little more efficiency when I'm not ragging it.

As a coincidence I also have a bit of 'chatter' on my Bailey dv. I don't know why it does it or if it's a problem, so if anyone out there can elaborate I would also like to know. It does it under the exact same conditions as wez1981 described.
I don't get any lag or anything so it seems to be operating ok.

everything stated above is spot on - you could try to use a stiffer spring in your DV to compensate a little. I've moved mine back now as it got on my titties.

Thanks for the info guys! very informative, certainly given me a lot to think about. Stiffer spring is in the post right now thanks to Forge :)

Ill keep you updated on how it goes.

interesting that you are looking at a stiffer spring as it appears that the DV is not operating quickly enough as it is... so perhaps the opposite is required?
what spring are you currently using? and what boost levels are you hitting?

I currently have the green spring.

What you say makes sense - but im sure ive read others have tried the yellow spring and its fixed the problem (maybe conicidence, or maybe i mis-read). Im currently peaking 23psi and it holds anywhere between 17-20 depending on which gear at the time (stage 1 map)

Its on its way so for the sake of 5 mins ill throw it in and give it a go. Looks like ive got a lot of combinations of DV setup to try over the weekend..

007p on its own with yellow spring (relocation position, standard position bunged off)
007p on its own with yellow spring (standard position, relocation bunged off)

Split-R on its own full Recirc (relocation position, standard position bunged off)
Split-R on its own full Recirc (standard position, relocation bunged off)

Split-R on its own part Recirc (relocation position, standard bunged off)
Split-R on its own part Recirc (standard position, relocation bunged off)

007p and Split-R (full recirc) (007p standard position, SplitR relocation position)

Ill make logs of each setup and post findings up here incase anyone else finds it useful (if i get time ill take pics of each setup too).
