Hi,

Altea 2.0 TDI (2006)

After hearing a rattle yesterday I found a neat little cooler hanging down underneath the drivers side front seat. The front bolt has snapped and so it was only held on by metal the pipes that lead somewhere and the other bolt. Does anyone know what this cooler is for and is this a common fault and simple to fix.

I have used a couple cable-ties to secure it for now but will get it booked in asap but have a 100 mile trip planned tomorrow so need to know if I need to make sure it's secured every 10 miles or so if it's a oil cooler... I can post a pic if it help explain where it is...

As Always thanks in advance for any help!

if you read the thread and click on the link phil posted it should answer your questions, two weeks on and I haven't bothered my lazy backside to do it yet might get round to it tomorrow.

Thanks both - slightly happier it's not an oil cooler. I will do a "proper" fix as soon as I get home as the cable ties are holding it secure at the moment, I was just worried they would melt if it get's too hot...

Found a few other threads that explain various methods of fixing it.

Thanks again!

My fell off at the front bolt recently (must be the season for it).
When I poked around with a screwdriver I found that the point where the stud was welded to the body had rusted through. Poked the rust out and hey presto a bolt hole. Lifted the carpets inside the car put a new bolt in, think it was either 6mm or 8mm. Finished off on the outside with a bit of brush on underseal.
