I'm considering getting my 1st remap over the next couple of months. I don't really use my car due to having a company car so the money I'm saving on my own fuel I'm thinking of putting towards a remap.

Near enough everyone who has their CR170 remapped on here has a Revo map, with the exception of Graham having a Shrimp map (albeit DeDPF)

Has anyone got any experience with P-Torque maps for our engine or a Shrimp stage 1 map?

Both of these are quite a bit cheaper than Revo so I'm considering giving one of them a go.

Thoughts anyone?

There are some good tuning boxes out there. The DTUK one can do fueling and boost and has about 8 power settings. It can be removed in minutes. When you get a new car it can come with you or go on ebay to get half of your money back.

210 BHP and 440nm sounds OK to me.

I have been looking at them recently too after your post the other day.

Look convenient being able to remove too.

I saw a graph for one of the tuning boxes though and it looked like the torque came on and off like a switch, can't remember which company that was from though.

I wish I could give a few options a test to see what i think!

Are you planning on going for the tuning box?

I've been talking (via email) a lot wth Andrew - DTUK about his boxes and im gonna have a drive up one friday afternoon to try them both. the older CRD2 gives something like 205 bhp / 420Nm and the newer CRD-T gives something like 210 bhp / 443Nm

my concern is bunging more than 400Nm thro the DSG box i have in my FR. the tuned ED30 golf boys seem to regard 300lbs/ft or 400Nm as a sensible max for the box.

my DSG standard is pushing 258 lbs/ft or 350Nm thro the box.

the CRD-T can be tuned (move jumpers in teh box) to ad 10, 20 or 30% and similarly de-tune it by 10,20 and 30%.

im considering a CRD-T box and if i feel its too much for teh DSG then i could jumper it down 10% and still be getting a potential 189 bhp / 399Nm....

anyhow i'll go up and try them and see how i feel.

Is going up there to try one something that anyone can do? I would be interested in doing the same even though it's a long way for me.

Looking through the pics there is one for a tdi Leon. If i am looking at it the right way the torque surges up to max quite early on in the rev range while the power climbs quite steadily.

The power curve is about as good as you want really, nice and even delivery.

The torque looks to come in pretty aggresively over a short rev range which is probably normal for a tdi to be honest, my only real query would be how it then starts to drop off within 500rpm, i'd prefer it to hold that torque for longer in the rev range.

In saying all of that, i'm not sure what a standard graph would look like, the torque might behave in the same way although from what i can feel when giving mine some beans it holds the torque pretty well.

That's a different and better graph than what i've saw lately so it must have been a different company.

As you've said, that doesn't look too bad.

DTUK's shop is only 25mins away from a site i visit every few weeks (albeit in my company vehicle) but i may take my car up one day and try it out (if they'll let me)

guys, im nto saying they will, but i was talking to Andrew who was very helpful with stacks of iinfo to send me on email. he's a business man and if he thinks a quick try will sell his product then he'd be silly not to let you try one...

but i'm saying that how he works...just ask him.

This sounds very interesting, with alot more flexibility than a regular map (just plug-in + adjustable settings).
Not followed any links yet, do prices stack up about the same as a Remap?

Plus how/where would one of these Tuning boxes connect in to your car?

ps
Andrew - DTUK just came back to me with this....

"anyone can pop in at anytime between 10am and 3/4pm Monday – Friday to test a system on their cars

The proof is in the pudding as they say"

I've known Andrew for a few years... he really is one of the nicest blokes in any business i've ever met!

He's not the type of guy to feed you some bull to sell you his box, he gives you all the information you need, and then lets the box do the rest of the work! he really is a top top bloke!!

How many other tuning companies will give you a mobile number that's available 24 hours if something goes wrong? NONE! that's why DTUK is first choice for me.....shame mines PD engine lol

OK, so these are all for the CR (Facelift car) engine variations.

Nothing for the pre-FL TDi PD170 2.0 FR. As with Remaps, take it this is down to the PD being an older engine configuration, along with the DPF, therefore Tuning companies perfer to stay clear.

that graph seems rather painful in my eyes, not dissing the product as i have no experience of it, but i can see you spinning non-stop with that much torque so fast, so say goodbye to your tyres.

http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/VAG20TDiCR170ps.pdf this link is to superchips, it shows their map against the standard, whilst superchips are renowned for not getting the max out of cars and im not saying there better in anyway, it does give a good comparisson, in my mind the tuning box is too much too soon and disappears pretty sharpish, i would rather have a bit less power more across the rev range personally.

Most dont like the ECU and the DPF issues, Revo pulled out and even superchips advertise that they have a map for the PD. Shrimp still does PD's tho to 200bhp.

Yeh DTUK don't do a box, we tried one on mine, but went nuts with the ecu and was throwing error codes around like a court hands out super-injunctions!

Awesome GTi do a custom remap, and there are a few others who do, do a map, just have to shop around

Thats great, thankyou Nick (plus Graham) for the clarification. It's a pity, as a Tuning Box sounds such a nice, practical and flexible solution to a performance increase.

Suppose this is why the Title of this Thread is "CR170 Remap", and not CR plus PD Remap. :p
