Hello guys,

yesterday i've got a little bit of watter spilled on my back seat in my car. It's a 2013 Leon FR SC model. I've got the seat out to dry it out, but for my surprise when i got it out, i've found a white box that says Crash Recorder under there. I've never seen anything like that. I don't think this is standart as I couldn't find any info about it, being put in this car model.
Anyone have info what it is, why is it there and can i remove it ? I'm based in Bulgaria and i don't think we have a law or requirement of having anything like this in our cars. The car was originaly sold in Switzerland from what I know.
It says on it "do not remove" but i kinda want to remove it :D
(don't look at the dirt, it's already been cleaned)

Newer vehicles have it built in, older ones have a separate box as you've found here

I don't think that's why on this car though. It's a 2013 model, so a decade before they had to be fitted. Plus it looks battery powered.

Combined with the OP apparently being in Europe I suspect this was fitted at some point by (or on behalf of) Axa as an insurance requirement.

2022 they had to be built in to the vehicle at the time of manufacture.. prior to 2022 they installed these boxes

It will have been installed at the point of sale in Switzerland

Who is "they" ?

As far as I am aware there was no requirement to fit these (even in Switzerland) 12 years ago.

It looks to me like an aftermarket device fitted optionally to reduce insurance premiums, which would be consistent with common practice in Switzerland at the time.

“They” is in reference to the aforementioned event data recorder

If you look at the link posted above, you’ll see this exact device in the bottom right hand corner of the page mentioning event data recorders.

This is because the device in question is an event data recorder, because the car was sold in Switzerland. The Swiss began installing EDRs as early as 2012
