Cupra R

Hi Everyone,

First post here, I am currently fighting the urge to replace my 59 plate civic with either a Mazda 3 MPS or a Cupra R.

Having looked through both this forum and the Mazda forum I am none the wiser, as to be expected each forum claims that their car is better :).

I like the interior of the MPS as it looks similar to the Civic (one of the reasons I bought it), the only thing I don't really like about the MPS or any of the newer Mazda models is the smiley face.

As for the Cupra, I am not blown away by its looks, but it doesn't look bad, it is just the interior looks dull.

How are the Cupra cars for interior rattles and squeaks? I also notice their is a new generation coming out next year, would they be releasing their performance hatch right away or months after?

I can get the MPS cheaper than the Seat, but the Mazda seems to depreciate faster.

I have made the post on both this and the seat forums so I can get a wider range of recommendations.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Are you for real? It looks lush from the outside!!!

I agree that the interior isn't too great, but it's a lot better than the Pre-FL Leons. The interior on my car is vile lol.

I like the look of the mazda, but like you say, they depreciate so much quicker. I've heard they're unreliable too.

Well my previous car was a 3 MPS. Now driving a FL Cupra, soon to be buying a Cupra R lol. The Mazda didnt give me any bother whatsoever.

I loved it, got the power down a bit better than the Cupra because of the proper LSD fitted to the MPS'. The one I had was a first generation facelift, so the tax was £435 per year! That + being a nightmare on petrol made my mind up to change.

The Cupra is consistantly getting 100+ more miles per tank and it feels a lot better put together. The Mazda rattled a lot interior wise as well.

Depreciation is also rediculous on them. Makes me sick thinking about what I lost on it :-(

What Car state that a new Leon is not due until 2013 and even then they never introduce the performance models straight away.

I think the Cupra R is a real grower. Looks too subtle at first but then you spot the details. It's no Focus RS in the styling stakes for sure but I like it.

My local Mazda garaga has an MPS that is 2 years old with 9000 miles on the clock and it's almost exactly half the price it was new. That's some deprecation! EVO magazine ran one as long termer and it blew it's turbo in the first 15000 miles. Probably had a hard life with them though ;-)

Only reason I purchased the R was because of it Practicality of a 5 door car, great boot, semi decent pace. (Bargains to be had) If it wasn’t for two kids and dog I would of purchased the Focus Rs.

Mps is an interesting car but I’m not paying the government 400+ a year road fund when it’s only a second car that does no more than 3000 miles a year.

I guess the other bonus for the R is it so easy to tune and for not a lot of money could outpace the others in it class. The interior: seat are great very confortable the leather is very soft, I see this causing problems :-s Sat-Nav is awful compared with my BMW and the dash is from recycled wheelie bins. You pay for what you get.

I test drove a Cupra and an MPS. I did like the look of the MPS more.
However, I went with a Cupra because I thought the suspension was a bit hard on the MPS for everyday use, the fuel consumption, and the cost of the car - MPS was a few grand more for almost new models.
