Cupra suspension vs SX. What are the differences!

Well, I am getting tired of the under steer. I've got better tyres on the front but it's still always the front that washes away.

I was thinking about upgrading the suspension, perhaps to the stuff that is standard on the cupra. I was wondering about the differences. On Parkers the SE is said to come with "Sports suspension" but the SX (like mine) doesn't. I've searched for more information on the forums, but to no avail.

I know mine has a 23mm anti roll bar, but that is all I know!

Is there a difference in ride height?
Will this help reduce under steer or just body roll?

Well just for anyone who ever reads this the differences I found are:

The front now sits 10mm lower than standard

The back now sits 5mm lower than standard

The car feels more response to steering inputs, it also doesn't feel quite so "lollopy" around corners.


The process of fitting is quite straightforward, I used a guide for a mk4 golf and it was the same process.
 
I thought my SX handeld resonably well on the standard 15's you get, bought some cupra alloys and they grip a tad more but not an awfull lot. Have resonable tires on aswell.
 
I thought the S and SE suspension wasn't any different? I couldn't tell any difference between them.

Didn't the SX just replace the earlier SE models?
 
Well according to Parkers the SE had "sports suspension" as standard, where the S and SX do not. The SX was apparently a short term special edition that sold well so was kept on, can't remember where I read that.

I had the impression the SE replaced the SX. Not sure if it's true though. If you got the front half of an SE, and the rear of an SX and welded them together, you could get a Seat Leon SEX.

TNTom, I don't think changing the wheels would make a huge difference to normal handling, you get less sidewall deflection but that'll be about all, well less absorption over bumps too. I just felt the car was a bit sloppy.

I will do more driving and try and determine the key differences soon. I was just trying to make the car feel less heavy. Tried to reduce under steer. I think it's worked...
 
SEX lol.

I seem to remember the 1.4, 1.6 and 1.9 90TDI models had the S package originally.
The 1.8 and 1.9 110TDI models had the SE package.

I've driven the 110 SE and the 1.6 S and they don't seem any different from a handling point of view.

I know the original Cupra and all the subsequent ones, and the FR, have lowered and stiffened suspension.

And all 'standard' Leons have firmer suspension than their VW counterparts anyway.

All I know about the SX was that it upgraded the standard S models to SE status in effect. So the 1.6S lacked the climate control, fogs and electric wing mirrors the SX had, for example.
 
after trying to find a set of lower arms (front) have been told they are different on the cupra to normal leon models, bigger bushes apparantly, so thats one difference.
