Cupra Vs Leon FR TFSI

I know quite alot of people traded in Leon's for Ibiza Cupra's and i was just wondering what are peoples verdicts on them?

I really want an Ibiza FR or Cupra/Boc but i can't help but keep having a look at used Leon FR TFSI with DSG. You can pick them up from about £9000 with decent mileage.

I know the MPG is more, the tax is about £100 more a year and also the insurance is more, but are the running costs massively different from the Ibizas? MPG figures shown are never real world! :D
 
id say test drive both of them....the leon is a bigger car and you may prefer the feel of one or the other. as for the 1.4 tsi ive got 27K on mine and its still running :) and the DSG is AMAZING :)

i get between 30-40 mpg driving in my spirited manner from my cupra
 
I had the octavia vRS which is same engine/chassis as the Leon fr. I now have the fabia vRS which is the same chassis/engine as the curator.

Important, the lens mk5 golf platform is way way superior to the ibiza cupra, but the engine is a peach in the ibixa. Both my octavia and fabia were stock/stage1 and stage 2 tuned and the 1.4tsi is at least 10mpg better in every scenario of driving. I think it saves me bout 15pound a tank on overall mileage

Hmm i am quite tall and the more room the better :p

For me its down to ££ really, the Leon is a few £1000 cheaper to buy but is a few £100 more on the insurance, £100 on the tax and I'm guessing quite alot more on the petrol.

My work commute isn't very far at all, so any other driving other than that is pleasure.

My C2 VTR i have at the moment is only 1.6 but it seems absolutely shite on fuel, so the leon must be worse! lol
 
i think whichever car you get (cough go for the cupra cough) you'll be loving it :) i was abit hesitant on the DSG, which im sure most people are, but when you get used to it, its a PEACH!..you'll be saying "SEE YAAAAA" to the car next to you :p

I'm 6.3 and I find Leon very spacious while sitting in Ibiza at the dealers it didn't feel that roomy. I'm not sure how rev hungry 1.4tsi is but 2.0tfsi revs all the way to red line quite happily :)

I totally agree. Every time someone comes on the forum to say they have a new Cupra / Boc / FR the same people post an 'it's going to break' reply. It must be horrible for the OP. Is it a jealousy thing?
 
I'll post from the Leon point of view.
I've had an ibiza cupra and now a Leon cupra, I got the same mpg from my ibiza as I do my Leon, around 34mpg. I would say the ibiza cupra sounds better but only because of the little amplifier under the bonnet :)
The dsg was fun but its manual all the way for me. The Leon is far superior in the snow due to its weight and I found the auto ibiza a nightmare to get unstuck, and if dsg doesn't matter to you, don't get the Leon fr, get the cupra. Bigger turbo, bigger brakes, bucket seats and can remap to 300ish without any other work. As said, test drive what you feel is best, I got my Leon cupra for £10k with 40k miles and with lots of goodies and I love it :)

I'm probably about the same height as well, both are going to be a step up from the C2 :D

I see in your sig your averaging 25MPG in the Leon, is that alot of town driving or something?


Danny it is the DSG i am particularly after! :lol:

How are you managing to match the MPG between the cars? The Ibiza must be more economical. :p
 
The Leon has better handling, far better build quality, more room (way more in the boot), even down to better seats. Most people (like me) that moved from Leon to Ibiza did it for financial reasons, mainly petrol consumption and insurance.

Nothing too wrong with the Ibiza and as long as you treat the car with respect you shouldn't have any problems with either the engine or DSG box. Look at the history of those that complain.
 
I test drove the leon cupra and yes it is nice and spacious and comfy inside but it just didn't have the same punch the twin charger has. I love the leon cupra and would not mind the LCR but I seriously LOVE the boc and yes I have had one or two little niggles but with 13K on the clock now my car still has not missed a beat. yeah some ppl have had serious issues with their cars but you would have that with any other car you get too I believe.

Petrol consumption and insurance means alot to me as well because after paying a chunk every month for the car i don't want massive running costs at the same time! :D
 
The most I got out of my Ibiza Cupra was just over 40mpg, the most I've had out the Leon Cupra is 39mpg.
If DSG is important to you, then that will effect the fuel consumption. My Ibiza Cupra was always bad on fuel and always had carbon build up around the exhaust and yet my local garage never found anything wrong. Also used all it's oil in 5k miles, I can usually get 34-36mpg in the Leon and yes the tax is over £210 a year and the insurance is more, but remember, the Ibiza Cupra isn't correct on insurance databases, if I do a quote for a Boc which is a group 14, its only about £200 a year cheaper then my Leon.
 
If I quote a leon on insurance it doubles for me compared to the boc hahahahahaha, that's why it makes more sense to me to have it.
